Thread: [OLD]The Chat/Spam Thread

  1. #9946
I've been thinking about the beginning of the windows 98 era... Back then, programs like TuneUp were needed and actually did make a tad faster. However, as time passed, the coders continued on making these optimization software packages. Starting with Windows 2000 there was no need to optimize anymore. No to mention Windows XP and Windows Vista which served as a milestone for windows history. Coders, loved money so... they continued with this crap. A lot of today's optimization software existed 16 years ago. Large companies such as Auslogix, TuneUp, MaceCraft Software etc. etc.
There's no reason, whatsoever to use this kind of software on today's windows OS. Not even CCleaner is worth it when you could easily delete the temp folders once a week manually.

Am I right about this? What do you think?

well u're right.. but more than 70 percent people don't know about this.. some don't even know they can do it manually...
the advancement in everything has made people just way too lazy.. they'd rather buy 100 $ software rather to read a tutorial of 3 minutes which can teach u alot... people just want a 1 click dummy software for everything...
using brain is out of the question now a days.. daily i recieve atleast 2-3 laptops from friends to clean the viruses, installing windows, driver problems etc etc etc...... people are completely retarded these days n no matter how many times u tell them this is the way u can do it.. they'd still say just do it ,, i can't or i don't know how to do it...
m even surprised at lenovo's sevice centre... my friend brought a laptop.. it was restarting again n again,, i diagnosed it n i knew its not a software problem its hardware,,, but my friend insisted on installing new windows... still the problem was there.. i told him.. its d hard drive.. it has the problem.. it diagnosed the hdd n voila i was right.. so we went to lenovo's service centre.. i told them its the hard drive that might b causing the problem.. they didn't checked anything.. they just replaced the hdd... they didn't even bothered to look for the trouble... what if i was wrong? then? this is the another example of being lazy .. i didn't say anything coz i was 100 % sure it was the hDD

I'd rather use ccleaner than manually search and remove all the unnecessary files.
As long as the software is freely available I don't see why make my life harder.
And I think we still need defragglers.

Yes but every program you install actually slows down the os. CCleaner is now an all-in-one sollution. Even if you use it to clean junk files, it still has registry cleaner and other stuff in it. Which means: waste of space, loading time (a one-job soft usually starts faster and takes fewer resources) etc etc.

You can use batch files for cleaning (as simple as del /f/q/s <directory).
    Thanks

We're talking about Windows here. The default install is bloated as fuck.Another application surely won't make things worse.
(I know you're probably using some custom tailored windows version based on your needs,I'm looking at it from a general perspective)
Slightly related: I found this really nice pdf viewer and I replaced evince with it.It also has a windows version hint hint MuPDF
Off topic: Got myself a Ffffound account. Wasn't worth it.
    Thanks

You guys are all talking out of your ass and discussing just to discuss.

If your hard drive can't even spare the 10mb CCleaner takes, it's just sad.
Why would something you install and isn't running slow down your os? That's like saying your new shoes hurt even when you're not wearing them.
Deleting directories is *of coursse* a lot safer than using some intelligent tool to do so. /sarcasm.
I also suggest you guys try windows again, cause you've obviously not used it since xp. My new win8 box boots a lot faster than the ubuntu one. it also starts programs a lot fast and just generally works easier thus more pleasant for me. (yeh yeh, metro tiles suck)

I'm supposed to be the noob here, but apparently you all seem to be struggling by just using an os... It's really not that hard to keep it clean and working...

He's still around, just not 24/7... is unconnectable... and has dial-up speeds.

I once had to wait several months to complete a PSX ISO on a public tracker, but eventually made it!

Not worth downloading in my opinion. I used to do the same thing 8 years ago. Now, I just don't care.

It was totally worth it, as I already have the file.

uTorrent 3.3 includes diskio.mark_of_the_web. More annoyances by each version they launch. uTorrent marks all files downloaded so that UAC knows to block each and every file downloaded. Eanbled by default I guess.
From what I've read you can't manually disable these marks on all files but only one at a time.
    Thanks
