None, I don't use it. I only recommended it to you, as it's good for when you don't have the hardware's exact information. Surely you don't need the latest version to know that?

Whenever I do a fresh pc install I just load up the free version of Avast! antivirus, and spybot search and destroy. Everyone is usually behind a router so I let the router's firewall handle that part and they're usually good to go.

oh , I also install Firefox.

you mean a fresh windows installation?
you might have noticed that the x86 platform a.k.a. 'pc' is not limited to windows

    yes, fresh windows installation.

My answer pertained to the topic.

If I was doing a fresh debian or ubuntu installation I wouldn't be installing software that didn't exist for it.

Router firewalls won't do the job for noobs - eventually they'll (re)install a P2P software working under a different port, and wonder why it gives a yellow light or says something about being "firewalled"

If I can suggest a good antivirus or firewall I would suggest Kaspersky Anti-virus, bar-none one of the best anti viruses I used, but then you have to deal with the fact that keys will get blacklisted etc. A good alternative is Avira Antivir but its weakness is that it cannot protect it self from being terminated by a virus while Kaspersky and some other antiviruses do. AVG is just a terrible antivirus so don't consider this at all, its detection rate isn't the best nor is the self protection. NOD32 let me down when it was not able to detect a very public virus that destroyed my computer. You can also try Threatfire along with another antivirus, it is considered an antivirus booster. There was one more program that boasted to have the best detection rate but it was just a manual scanner not a real time scanner, I will post it when I remember its name.

on some sites trend micro is last on list lol so which site to believe since all have some different test results.i have nod32 and no problems, kaspersky maybe detects more but way more false positives like almost any game crack etc. and is the most resource hungry.and what about bitdefender...

BitDefender was quite slow last time I tried it - or at least not as fast as NOD32.

what's the deal with the Overall Rate of Protection going over 100%?
    isn't that unnecessary?

I believe the green bar is a comparison. For example, (A increases B by 200%)
Thats why the the green bar is over 100%.
If you look at the base protection, it's a low and sensible number.

Does anyone else maybe have a problem when you try to update Nod32 v2.7 database? My last update was 22.03.2010.
And sorry for putting it in this thread!
