lol, you don't need any virus soft for osx. virus wise it's better than linux.
only bsd and the proprietary unix versions are even better regarding virii.

but as on winblows you need some sort of firewall to stop some apps calling home. little snitch is the #1 there.

iptables is a part of the linux kernel so it can only exist on linux.
osx is based on bsd so its native firewall is ipfilter(d) but to block apps connecting to where ever ls is the best by far.

of course. it's by far the best what you can do with an x86.

there were some unconfirmed sightings in the last few years but literally just a hand full.
i've never faced a single one tho.

that may increase dü to the popularity of hackint0sh but for now you can absolutely ignore that matter when running osx.

I just wanted to say that, like windows vs linux in the virii and malware subject, OSx might not have as many as windows, because of popularity. The virus and malware creators objective is to always target the most possible computers, so you see the picture.
    it's hip to be square

exactly. and that's why i said that it might increase dü to the growing popularity of hackint0sh but looking at the numbers now i doubt this will happen anytime soon.

    6 to be exact. ever.
windows broke the 1,000,000 barrier in 2008.

also keep in mind that of course all anti virus companies don't like that situation and therefore will make it look like you'd need their app

and btw i rather expect the iphone to be a target in the near future.

There are a multitude of viruses made for OSX. One of my friends collects and sells infected OSX machines. As for antivirus', there's not many good ones out. You can find a few with a quick Google search, I've never used any because I've never used a Mac.
