New Pirate Bay Will Become a Pay Site

After Global Gaming Factory (GGF) announced its intention to buy The Pirate Bay, the public was left wondering what the site’s future would look like. Today it was confirmed that sharing on the new site will come with a cost, as the new owners plan to charge the users of the site a monthly fee.

TPB went legal and paid, that's it... its name doesn't suit it anymore.

    basically, it's become another USENEXT.
    That's all.

Wow. I guess this venture will go bankrupt. Honestly, I'd rather pay to be part of a private tracker (no, really) I used to support The Pirate Bay in it's humble beginnings and it's not-so-humble recent past. It was great to see something totally open to the public that created a semi-anonymous community of filesharers from nothing. But semi-anonymous and open to the public proved to be a fatal combination. RIP TPB ....

Not quite. I don't believe they will bill you for the next 40000 years without your consent and try with all their might to stop you from leaving their service.

Everything on the 'net is legal......well, er...most is.
growing grass on the internet is legal,
even selling your dog over the internet is legal.

And I don't believe that teh New Pirate Bay is gonna bill anyone for the next 40,000 or even 40 million years without anyone's consent.

I don't think people even live that long.

And even if they do and it becomes another UseNext, it'll lose some people going over to it. Like anonftw mentioned and I think that he's right.....it'll go under.

I also am of the opinion that this venture won't survive for long. Maybe for a short while, but not for long.

For all we know, sites like Mininova and other search sites and other open torrent sites like CodaFM,( for music as an example), or even PublicDomainMovieTorrents will move along fine as those sites seem to be doing ok. ...so far anyways.

And then you have programs like emule and the donkey. They'll always be there and people will always use those. I recall in my early days of torrenting, I used to use those.....until I discovered Private torrent sites.
And then I discovered cheating. .......harharhar (evil laugh)

So all in all.....TPB may be gone insofar as we knew of it before when it was open and free and everything was good and godly, but there's other sources that are available for people to get thier free stuff, yes??

Meh, I was just exaggerating. Just trying to point out that UseNext is a stickler when it comes to people who want out.

I agree completely. The hype created by this situation will without a doubt increase the people drawn to this service, but in the long run, other free sites will take over and even some private/semi-private sites like demonoid will take on some of TPB peeps.

The users of TPB didn't have to pay for their content before. Why should they stay and pay if they can go to an other tracker witch does the same thing as TPB for free.

Maybe it has a future for people who want to dl legal. Itunes is very succesful too, but maybe that's because of the ipod. We'll have to wait and see!
