Movies from 2015 worth watching - A retrospective

an overview (incl. short comments) of movies from 2015 imo worth watching (includes movies from 2014 or earlier, whose scene bdrips/dvdrips got released in 2015) - afaik this is 'as good as it gets' this year


action:

San Andreas (2015) problematic writing and uneven cgi does stand out in many scenes but still got sufficiently entertaining i guess


adventure:

Jurassic World (2015) unexpectedly entertaining sequel, the negative: problematic writing


animated:

Song Of The Sea (2014) refreshing, fairy-themed, nicely animated, with competent musical background, rather tragic or melancholic atmosphere


comedy:

Dumb and Dumber To (2014) pretty good attempt at repeating the original, though their age shows & weak sidekicks drag it down a notch


drama:

McFarland, USA (2015) nice feel-good movie about noticing human potential & coaching a team of underdog cross-country runners towards success
Still Alice (2014) very good semi-indie, emotionally difficult to watch, competent j. moore and even the twilight girl was quite watchable

Clown (2014) above average horror, good ideas, though it has problematic pacing, not enough gore or scares


other: (documentaries)

Citizenfour (2014) slow paced, focused on the snowden character and understanding the global magnitude of his leaks, comparable to similar data mining practice done by various large and not only online-based companies, profiling all of their customers/users, also showing how 9/11 came really conveniently as a good excuse to launch surveillance on a massive scale

Hellstorm (2015) a different view on world war 2, showing numerous, intentional war and post-war atrocities by the allies due to an uncontrollable hatred towards their enemy, wherein they lost all civilized manners and turned into wild inhuman beasts and worse, while publicly portrayed as heroes by the mainstream media, over and over again, even until this day


romance:

Begin Again (2013) ok-ish indie romance, best part: atmosphere, music; weak parts: beginning, keira tries to sing without the band backing her up!


SF:

Interstellar (2014) the movie wasn't stellar, it remained interstellar, somewhat lost in space trying to reach the stars, it wanted to be too much (SF, action, drama, philosophy, scientific theory, futuristic scenario/prediction), none of which got the appropriate treatment to rise much above the average
