to be honest isp providers r just pretending to stop piracy by blocking only a handful of torrent websites when they know there r thousands of torrent websites plus we can easily bypass it.... they don't want cutomers to look for some other isp n don't want to lose their customers
if they really wanted to stop piracy they would've blocked the port on which torrenting works

There's no single port, but blocking the protocol is perfectly possible.

I'm surprised India's blocking trackers, I thought they were a "pirate cool" country like mine (for now).

India IS a pirate cool country, actually. This recent torrent site blocking is just a 'knee jerk reaction'. It will all settle down. It's funny, outside every suburban station in Mumbai, loads of pirated DVD's with software, movies are freely available. Every few months, there are raids on such DVD stalls, they disappear for a few days and then are back to business again. Those raids are just meant to be carried out for earning 'bribes', nothing more. Nobody is really bothered about piracy in true sense. Where the per capita income is so low, I do not expect people to go and buy original stuff, which costs them almost about one third to one fourth of their monthly pay.

I fully agree with that, Hellman. Same story for those 'region locked' DVD players earlier. When you go to a store for a DVD player, they will sell it to you, and send one person next day to your home to 'unlock' the region code. The region stuff is just to show. All shop owners don't care about it. They want to sell and do not want to lose their customer.
