Trackers such as GFT have excellent trading value for some due to their rarity. If everyone was given an invite, for example, no one would bother to join, except to trade the account away once they close. It happened with BCG when almost no one had a referral, TheVault when their invite system was closed due to selling, and so on.
About the "community"... let's take FTN, for example... I'm not a member (and I doubt I'll ever be), but I've seen the community excuse used countless of times in trades and requests, at the same time I keep on hearing from respected members here and elsewhere that it's the same as every other 0-Day tracker, with worse retention due to the ratio-free scheme, and that the famous community it's supposed to have mostly spams in forum games. And seriously how often those people will devote their online time to those "community" and what about their downloaded stuff?
I don't get the whole rarity/l33tness thing, it boggles my mind.
