Question Looking for a real 256 GB flash drive

    Hi,

I was looking to buy a 256 GB flash drive, but all I found on e-shops are fakes (including that dark red "Kingston DT310", which does not actually exist in their product lineup). Are there any real models, providing that capacity and good performance for a low price, that you could recommend?

    Thanks in advance!

    Here's what newegg has
    Code:
    http://www.newegg.ca/Product/ProductList.aspx?Submit=ENE&N=100007959%20600000450&IsNodeId=1&name=256GB
Newegg is a reputable site. Whatever usb flash drives they have will truly be 256gb if they say it's 256gb. However, they aren't cheap. You'd be looking at spending over $200.

You might be able to find the same flash drives somewhere else for a cheaper price. If not anything else, this will show you the models that are out on the market.

May I ask why you're looking for a flash drive with such high storage capacities and not just an external HD which will be a lot cheaper?

They are overpriced and not are not a stable medium for carying data.
Why not buy a portable HDD? With 150$ you can get a 3TB HDD or even more.

that sounds like a 3.5" one, which isn't really all that portable at all...

I would personally rather sell my soul and pay for a google drive than get such a stick. Stuff like boxcryptor works well enough to feel safe.

I was looking for something ultra-portable, but I just looked up prices for external HDDs, and I think you guys convinced me.

    128GB PNY Attaché - $88
    1TB Samsung M3 Portable - $113

Eight times more space for 25 more dollars, I'll take that.

"Today, after moving some files, I tried to remove the Patriot from my USB slot, and the case pulled away from the "innards." The drive still works, but the cover no longer stays on."

"the rubber case and plastic frame inside all came apart when I pulled it out of a USB port. I wasn't overly rough with it the thing just isn't well constructed. Still functional but no case anymore just the exposed board."

"it's VERY fast when using it in a USB 3.0 port. But the first time I went to remove it from the port the rubberized housing slipped off like it wasn't even attached."

"I'm sure the actual hardware in the drive is fine, but the very first time I (rather gently) pulled it out of my computer, the entire rubber frame came apart."

    Sounds discouraging.

Kingston has DataTraveler HyperX serie which is very real, and it goes up to 512gb. But as others noticed, it is awfully overpriced. Just go with portable HDD! I bought one for myself and will be getting another one soon. Its pretty portable, fits in the pocket :].

I read all reviews over the net to make sure I get the most quality and reliability product for my money and I came to conclusion that best product is: Western Digital Elements SE Portable. I'm super happy with it and thats my recommendation.

Thanks for the tip, but I'm trying to avoid giving WD my money after a fiasco with one of their drives in my new laptop. You can read more here.

Searching some more I found the following offers.

    http://www.adata-group.com/index.php...cid=2&piid=219 - $203.77
Seagate FreeAgent GoFlex Desk 3TB USB 2.0 Desktop External Hard Drive - Newegg.com - $226.28

The second one is significantly clunkier with the 3.5" size and separate power input, but an extra TB for that price is very good.
