Honestly, this struck me a bit. So after searching around the privacy section of facebook, the only thing that I remotely found resembling that was this:

If you'd like a copy of your personal data held by Facebook, please file a request.

which I found under Access Requests

Other than that, I can't really say that this might be accurate. Unless some of you know of this 1st hand that they have to give you a CD. But it did'nt say that inside their privacy section. Maybe you would have to request it yourself. I don't know......

I think it might be since as you were able to see from the pic that there is a UK statute involved. So to answer your question, maniak, yes. That's all dependent on whether or not such a statute still exists and/or hasn't been modified in the House. Facebook must have a lot of friends, if you understand my meaning in that statement. And I don't mean just it's users.

i'd say this is a scenario where you get 'more than you bargained for' because in order to get (at least a part of) the data they have on you, you'll have to send them exactly what they want to know, ie. you'll be playing right into their hands:

If you are in Europe and want a hard copy of all data that Facebook has on you, you’ll need to request this data from Facebook. Its headquarters are “Facebook Ireland Ltd” based in Dublin, Ireland, but contacting the company directly usually doesn’t get any response. To get a hard copy of all your Facebook data, start by scanning a copy of your government ID. Then fill out the Personal Data Request form on Facebook.com. The form asks you to upload the scanned copy of your government ID.

According to Schrems, the first response is usually an email to try to make you go away with instructions on how to log-in to Facebook.com. It may be necessary to send two or three emails or file a complaint with the Irish Data Protection Commissioner.

Once Facebook gives in, you will receive a CD by mail that contains a PDF with your Facebook data.

If you used a wrong name or birth date on facebook, you have to correct it before you request your data.

imagine them burning billions of CDs...problem facebook?

imagine them getting more relevant details about their users (like accurate name/address/ID copy/...)...so who's laughing now?

According to European data protection law every individual has the right to get a copy of all personal data a company holds about him (right to access). This law is applicable to Facebook too. Every user with a residence outside of the US and Canada has a contract with “Facebook Ireland Limited”, based in Dublin, Ireland and has a right to access therefore.

If there was a way to ascertain and verify how facebook uses users data to spy/track/give ads etc it would be an excellent tool for its userbase.

scenario1
1. Take note of the ads thats currently served to you
2. request ur facebook held data
3. Use your real facebook account and for about a 1 week to a month, type in stuff and "like" things related to either cars or porn or the stock market or office stationary, but be consistent and it needs to be different to what you have talked about in the past
(so anon, talking about porn wont work for you in this test)
5. facebook will surely record this data to ur profile that ur interested in these things
6. Permanently del ur facebook acc: https://www.facebook.com/help/?faq=224562897555674
7. Create a facebook account and immediately take note of the ads they serve you, if they are the same as in the 1 month sting then you will know for sure facebook keeps a permanent and undetectable record of your profile
8. request ur facebook held data

At step 8, if the ads are the same in the sting then compare it to your two requested profiles

I've heard one thing: say you upload a picture, copy the URL, and then delete it. If you try to access via URL, it'll still be there after a long time, clear cache and all. If any of you Facebook users could confirm this, I'd appreciate it.
