Is Google's Circles a new social networking site?

Google did not become an IT Giant by fluke.
Although it failed miserably with its Google Buzz,it has refused to give up its pie of social networking and has made another attempt to win people over from Twitter and Facebook.Rumours had been swirling for a long time now that Google might take another stab at the space.

That product is rumoured to be Google Circles and recent news report give a glimpse of what it could be...
Google Circles will allow people to share photos, videos, and status messages with people in their social circle. Google's site will be unique, the speculation goes, because it will seek to understand how we relate to our various social networking friends, determine how truly close to them we are, then adjust the amount of content we share with those people.

Do you understand how different this is from facebook?
Just like real life, you dont share every damn thing with every one single one of your friends. Some friends are close, some are not-so-close... Thus you can choose to share the intimate content accordingly...
Facebook doesn't want you to have any privacy.Google Circles does it seems...

However things seems to be very hush hush giving the gossip vine a lot of fodder...

Some say the site never existed. Some speculate that when Google denied Circles will launch today(at SXSW) they meant that Circles will launch at some other date.

    Read about it here

What could Google possibly do that FaceBook doesn't already do?
Besides, it's too much headache for a person to maintain so many social networks.
(Some people still use Friendster and MySpace)

Be more discrete with some of the people you have in your friends list? I like the idea. This way I could share for example a tip about cheating with you guys and a tip about improving your ratio with the what.cd staff.

Google did not become an IT Giant by fluke.
correct, check out who its owners/founders & major shareholders are and you will know why it became a success, one of the main reasons being their 'connections' with global key/major players - the same may very well apply to just about any giant multi-national company around

if someone says its just some smart guys making a breakthrough, that someone is very naive (optimistic viewpoint)

and has made another attempt to win people over from Twitter and Facebook.Rumours had been swirling for a long time now that Google might take another stab at the space.
it might be an attempt to try, but eventually it doesn't matter, its similarly easy to just buy them or buy enough shares or create a strategic partnership (not necessarily a publicly known one), the latter might already exist via 3rd person involvement (as in major players that play together when needed, while at the same time publicly being 'enemies')

Facebook doesn't want you to have any privacy.Google Circles does it seems...
    lol, what a joke
what they both/all want is power/control/money, if less privacy brings them closer to that goal then thats the way to go

You always have the choice of not using them. Most of the time, they won't bother you that way.

OK, except in the form of stupid e-mail invitations sent by friends, but that can be fixed as well.

Some people can't get enough of those Flash games. They're like crack. They cost several of my friends their final grades on school as well as getting into university.

I no longer check out games, because once you start, you just can't stop.
But usually it's the competition (high scores among friends) that discourages me.
I found out they're actually cheating. LOL.
