Al Jazeera English: Google 'may quit China'

    Check it out.

Lots of people know that Google bent ass-over to please China's regulatory and censorship stipulations on it's territory, yes??

Well, here's news on the home front about Google mail suppossedly getting hacked by some people in China.

    Who does hacking in China??
When there's a war of words between China and, let's say, between another country like the US when they had one of their spy planes crash with a Chinese war-jet over China's territory in 2001, for instance LINK FOR MORE INFORMATION HERE, you know it's the Chinese government censorship bureau, yes??
    Count on it.

Google has said it may shut down its China operations in protest against government censorship of its search results.

The announcement by the internet search giant, which represents a major shift in policy, follows a recent hacking incident that appeared to target the accounts of activists using its electronic mail system, Gmail.
Like I just briefly mentioned about Google bending twice over to please the Chinese officials, here's what I mean:

Google has previously said it would obey Chinese internet laws requiring politically and socially sensitive issues to be blocked from search results, but now says that policy will be dropped
Do China's censorship people care if Google leaves??

Thomas Crampton, an expert on digital media with Ogilvy public relations based in Hong Kong, said one had to wonder if Google's threats to leave China would have any sway over Chinese policy.
Think for a moment. What's more important to China's??
Money, or security and control of it's populace??

"It's impossible to imagine China backing down in any way,".....

"From the point of view of the Chinese government, there are much more important things than even a high-profile company such as Google."
This is what I really like and maybe some of you would also agree with this statement:

"Google has taken a bold and difficult step for internet freedom in support of fundamental human rights,......"
And why did this all start with Google desiring to leave??

Google's changed stance on China was triggered by a sophisticated computer attack recently orchestrated from within the country, targeting the company.......(and)another more successful scam, in which dozens of activists in the US, Europe and China fighting the Chinese government's policies fell prey to ruses commonly known as "phishing" or malware......to steal passwords and unlock email accounts.
perhaps this will provide momentum to other companies from the West currently doing business with China to enact similar actions on their own behalf.

If not, then maybe Google leaving, created a vacuume there for other companies to take over Google's past position in China.
    What do you think??

i see this just as an excuse for an already pre-planned google agenda, which is still unclear

hacking attacks are not limited to china alone, but are frequent from the usa & russia too - i assume that to them google is no holy cow to avoid at all costs

4 Reasons Why Google has FAILED to Dominate the Chinese Search Market.
    30 Sep 2009

It has been 9 years since Google entered China Market officially, and 5 years since Google established Google China.

Despite having a brand value of an amazing $66.4 billion, Google.cn still fails to dominate the search engine market in mainland China and faces stiff competition from bitter rival Baidu.

According to statistics from comScore in early July, Baidu had become the second largest global search engine, with more than 8 billion searches and 145 million unique visitors in June. In other words, Baidu’s market share in China is nearly 76% to Google China’s 19.8 percent.

judging from the above (granted, a biased report) it looks like google made some beginner mistakes in setting up their infrastructure, which is a highly unlikely event for such a big company, its almost as if they didn't even bother to fix these issues - it would be logical that their market share in china (albeit more expensive to set up) would resemble the global market share with minor percentage differences

Google has said it may shut down its China operations in protest against government censorship of its search results.
nonsense, they censor much contents complying to various claims & laws as can be seen below:

    Censorship by Google

Censorship by Google is Google Inc.'s removal or omission of information from its services or subsidiary companies, such as YouTube in order to comply with the company's policies or government censorship laws.[1]
    Code:
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Censorship_by_Google
"Google has taken a bold and difficult step for internet freedom in support of fundamental human rights,......"
ROFLMAO, 'google is your friend' tactics - no such 'freedom-friendly' statement connected to a big corporation should be taken for granted - as witnessed from many past examples corporations have other priorities (profit & control among the top ones) - unless they can really prove otherwise, these statements are to be considered as a PR/media smokescreen

    very interesting, I thought.
So Google is supposed to be my friend. ...er was...I guess.
Well, I wonder if what Google means by the censorship quote above is regarding things such as hard porn on services such as YT. That you never see there, yes??
That could be construed as censorship with the companies policies on a service that is owned by Google. Yet, may allow a search for hard porn via it's search engine.
