Thread: Internet cost in your country

  1. #31
What a high speed you have!

In Iran, we pay $2-3 per month for 50 gigabytes of data at a speed of 8 megabits (yes, you read that right, megabits).

Yes, both the speed and volume of our download and upload are limited in Iran.

The salary of a worker in Iran is 100 dollars per month!!!

I wish the whole world knew what kind of hell we are living in.
We are only slightly better than North Korea

I have done some reading recently, and the situation is indeed very alarming, particularly the huge depreciation of the rial to the point large wads of cash are needed just for everyday expenses. Like Venezuela, Iran has been hit hard by its reliance on oil exports and general domestic instability.

At least the plan to replace regular Internet access with a national network free of "subversive" content didn't come through.

    100 Mbps, €6.8 (=$7.2) per month
    300 Mbps, €12.2 (=$13) per month
    500 Mbps, €14.5 (=$15.5) per month
    1000 Mbps, €18 (=$19) per month

A socialist but actually crony capitalist country.
Looks cheap, but not after purchasing power parity and general prices are considered.

Apparently my provider is in the process of shutting down analog cable and using the freed up spectrum for DOCSIS upstream, so my upload speed may become as high as 100 Mbps soon at no extra charge.

I downgraded from 1GB (8 euro) to 500MB (6 euro). The 500MB connection is the lowest you can get at this provider; I would've gotten lower than this. Most people would go for the highest available connection but it matters to ask yourself what you are going to do with it. The irony is that non-technical people tend to do with a higher bandwidth than those with technical background. And this is because of social media, audio and video streaming and gaming. I'm sorry people don't see it as I've written on here on numerous occasions, but this world, you pay for things that slowly degrade your mind and eventually kill you.
Personally, I've given up on everything that rots the mind, and as such.. I think an 100MB connection would suffice. To just download books, and read websites.. you don't need lots of bandwidth.
Somehow, I feel like we much happier when internet was slow. Because people don't know what to do with the technology given, and what usually happens is that one takes after another. You you seen John doing something, and Bill doing the same, you start to imitate. They already starting rolling out 5G+ over here, and with the 10GB internet connection, you have all the crap to destroy yourself at minimal prices. What I dislike about this is that they are forcing us to use their new tech. So, Maybe I want to keep a secondary phone on 3G - I cannot because 3G network will be shutdown in the next year. Same with internet connection speeds, we used to have 100MB connection 2 years back, now the minimum almost everywhere is 500MB.

The idea I'm trying to make here is to don't feel bad that your internet connections are crap. If I could, I would trade with you.

That's approximately 9 USD including tax here In India. Post 2016 it was horrible here where the cost of consumer internet was not cheap. But in 2016 a new provider disrupted the industry by launching cheap plans and fibre which started the providers to compete and reduce their price.

What sort of connection is it? And do you even have other options in your area? Because that sounds incredibly expensive.

Nope! It is a fiber connection and there is only one provider in my city, lowest tier is like $85 for 100/100, so i'd rather pay more for the gigabit connection to be honest
