    [Linux] KOffice - Office suite

KOffice is an integrated office suite built on the KDE platform.

It utilizes free and open standards like OpenDocument for its document formats, component communication and component embedding.

    KOffice is free software.

OpenOffice.Org (apparently the .org is officially part of the name) is another alternative, and free office suite; it's encoded in Java, so is multi OS, and comes installed when Ubuntu is installed.

Or it is possible to install MicroSoft Office, and run it using WINE, but I think there are prblems with making it genuine.

Although KOffice uses the same file formats OpenOffice.Org, they appear to be to completely different program, and not based on OO.O. They probably look similar because the features we expect from, say a word processor, don't variate greatly (spellchecker etc), and more often than not try to simulate anothe program, so that users find a transition easier.
