IFPI Goes After Torrent Site Hosting Providers

In the aftermath of the Pirate Bay verdict, Sweden has witnessed the demise of many other BitTorrent trackers. But not quite enough according to music industry lobby group IFPI, who are now threatening the hosting providers of torrent sites. The host of private BitTorrent tracker TorrentBytes appears to be one of the first targets.

Strange how TL doesn't seem to have been affected much by all this new anti-P2P hype, but having said that it is "down for maintenance" as we speak.

The tracker still works, though. According the white text in their frontpage, the site should be back by tomorrow...

    Not Found

The requested URL /index.php was not found on this server.

Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.
Is this what you mean by white text?

Wasn't dissing it, I'll miss the tracker to, I'm just saying waffles and what are in sweden, they'll be easy targets since all they host is music, that's what I'm afraid of.

They don't host music; they host .torrents of music albums and software and other things I can't remember, simply metadata, not the album itself. Then the TPB Case came along and every Anti-P2P group wants to go out and shoot down BT trackers.

no tracker in impenetrable, if you can get in so can some government agency - just think about their resources (technological, financial, logistical,...)

on the other hand i would say anti-p2p organizations are getting ahead of themselves, tpb sentencing is not over yet, there is a good chance of it being dropped (hint: biased judge)

I have to agree with you on the sentencing is not over and that the judge is biased...I am just fearful with the enormous resources of the IFPI that they will continue to put pressure on these judges and in the end they will cave...

true, and judges with less experience and integrity probably will, but defending lawyers have to keep an eye out on judge's 'rating', and frankly the judges themselves should have very high standards regarding their integrity and uncorruptability as they are the highest institutions of justice in our system

It sucks man but the ones with the most money typically wins.
lets hope not, filesharing is actually a good field for law firms to make themselves famous for defending 'little' people against big corporations, remember how Erin Brockovich did it

    Code:
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Erin_Brockovich
    or
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Erin_Brockovich_(film)
imo there will be a time of struggle but in the end reason will prevail - until then everybody should take some kind of action to support the right cause - informing users/people/relevant institutions, lobbying, scientific research, petitions, demonstrations and so on...

Everyone thinks its safe in sweden because of the pirate bay trial, but it is not infact safe. It is as dangerous as if you were hosting the site in the united states.

No, you didn't see it because of the /index.php, but that's what TL read yesterday night if you had removed that:

Site is down, due to some emergency maintenance needed. Site will be back online tomorrow morning. The tracker will remain active however during this time. Thank you for your patience. We are sorry for the inconvinience caused.
    Can still see it here

Speaking of TorrentLeech, which, if my tools serve me correctly, is located in Sweden. A Waffles power user got internet shut off after not responding to a letter from some aintipiracy organization from downloading the Wolverine screenprint from there. He lives in the USA. Just FYI, stranger things have happened.
