    Happy BirthDay What.cd !

Hard to believe, but it has been, officially, one full calender year since the birth of What.CD

On October 23, 2007, our beloved OiNK breathed its last breath, and left behind a progressive community of music lovers, file-sharers, and friends to pick up the pieces - and that we did.

From day one, What.CD has sought to be an ever-advancing pace-setter - the engineer of ingenuity if you will. While OiNK certainly paved the way for most modern-day private trackers, we agreed there was still room for improvement, particularly from a coding standpoint (and there always will be room for improvement). And so, for five feverish months, our fledgling Sysops made the decision to break from the mold and both designed and re-wrote an aging source code - from scratch - that has both re-shaped the means by which most of us now feel comfortable browsing a torrent site and left a lasting legacy for the torrenting community as a whole upon which to build and improve.

Just as the administrative framework and mindset has progressed, over the past year our community has continued to thrive, grow, and evolve. New friendships have been made, old acquaintances rekindled - all amidst a proliferation of solidarity that is our communal dedication to amassing the largest database this side of private trackers. First and foremost, however, we've been brought together via the fundamental motive for our combined vigilance: sharing amongst our peers that which we love most - music.

That said, we want to celebrate this special occasion with a week-long celebration. For starters, we've prepared a fresh round of Staff Picks - featuring the last contest winner's guest picks (freeleech of course ) , giving invites to all Members with >5GB uploaded, and introducing a brand new web-based IRC to be accessed via the site in hopes of making IRC accessible to all members. This can be accessed, for the time being, at What Network WebIRC. Make sure to check out this link for more detailed information on accessing the What.CD IRC network.

Staff picks have been prepared in Collage format here and can be discussed in this thread.

It's been a hell of a ride thus far, and we look forward to that which the future brings for What.CD

    NOTE: WebIRC not available yet.

They are generous somehow to give all existing members of What free invites equaling among different types of users....

And I thought that they were wanting to help reduce the number of invites on invite forums by not wanting to allow those anymore because they felt that there were too many members. Thats what I thought anyways. WHAT.cd isn't all that big when compared to places like FIle MP3 that has got over 500,000 members.

Hehe, nice... didn't know that a year could pass that fast

And yes, Seallion, Filemp3 might have more members, but what still has more torrents and more active users

    Small update:

    More What.CD Birthday Festivities

The What.CD Birthday festivities continue today with more awesomesauce.

First and foremost, an epic new feature courtesy of A9 -- Collage Bookmarks! W00T! Feel free to tell A9 how awesome it is and discuss it here.
Old bookmarks can be found here.

Second, a few days ago, The What CD Volume 2 [2008] was released. In celebration of What.CD's Birthday, it is now FreeLeech!
    You can find it here.
    And, you can discuss here.

And finally, the Unofficial What.CD store will be opening just in time for the What.CD Birthday festivities. The store is hosted by Unimatrix0 and not What.CD and will offer the usual type of merchandise -- What.CD T-Shirts, mugs, etc. All items are offered non-profit (at cost) and no proceeds will be paid to What.CD but only to cover the cost of the actual merchandise and to host the store.

The What.CD merchandise store hosted by Unimatrix0 can be discussed here.

The freeleech is a nice opportunity to improve your ratio.
