Now don't say we aren't good to you!
What a weekend! To say the freeleech was a "success", is the understatement of the year. Even before the freeleech started, our server was hardly able to keep track of the (seriously) increased traffic and tracker announces. So now, What.CD is being run on two servers: one new badass server for pure MySQL, and the previous server for everything else. We apologise again for the downtime the switch caused, but the new setup is more than worth it. In case you missed the specs here they are again:
- An 8-core 3GHz Intel Xeon X5450 CPU
- 32GB of RAM
- 8 15k RPM 73GB hard drives in RAID 10
So we should see a great improvement now we have this bad boy up and running.
Since we all love statistics, here are a few we compiled from the freeleech:
- There has been a total of ~240 TB uploaded (~240,000 gigabytes).
- The average user ratio has increased from 2.08 to 2.47.
- The milestone of 2,000,000 peers was reached.
- Average tracker announcements made per second: 1,000.
- During peak hours, we were serving around 100 pageviews every second.
And yes, most of the unintentional downtime we did face was due to the sheer beating you gave the site and tracker - not that we blame you, we see it more as a challenge for us to improve, and next time we'll be ready for you!
Don't forget that those without their own sources of albums to upload are encouraged to convert some of these FLAC's that don't have V0's.
