Bruce Lee
"I just remembered something that happened a long time ago."
I had no idea about this one. Looks awesome.
it's hip to be square
I assumed this would be a bit more tied into the Manson murders, but maybe that's just a backdrop.
Either way, I'm super excited for this!
Tarantino is superb at getting the "atmosphere" right on his movies. Jackie Brown, Pulp Fiction and True Romance are prominent examples of this. The last one was only written and not directed by him, but you'll still see what I'm talking about if you watch it.
Anyway, I'm highly looking forward to this one too. First time I feel that way about a movie since the year started
"I just remembered something that happened a long time ago."
Personally, I feel like the movies that Tarantino didn't direct, didn't have the atmosphere it should have. Even though True Romance was written by him, you couldn't really tell by the style of directing or the atmosphere. Still a great movie though! But that made me realize that a having great director is so important and that it's not just the script that's important.
tarantino started losing his touch somewhere around 2007 and hasn't recovered since - the trailer here isn't particularly reassuring
regarding django, i wasn't entertained by the exaggeration and promotion of mainstream propaganda about slavery (which directly affects the lives of people, the resulting misplaced hatred towards each other) and fantasies of revenge, which is another hollywood darling - seems the problem is tarantino's move towards supporting mainstream politics in his later movies, as opposed to what he does best: entertaining depiction of filth
Brad Pitt killing nazis, where have I seen that before
"I just remembered something that happened a long time ago."
this turned out to be a major failure, a messy movie filled with lots of 3rd rate throwaway ideas, nowhere near tarantino's early works
somewhat accurate description of the consumer and of this movieOriginally Posted by tv show trailer
problems:
- silly western or other tv shows
- random interviews of imaginary tv-show stars
- boring discussions/dialogue/monologue about tv-shows, acting, production problems and hollywood self-referencing
- repetitive driving around
- stunt men are not really hanging out with tv stars
- pacino trying too hard, somewhat disinterested pitt, unconvincing chewing the scenery dicaprio
- uninteresting pool party and the related affairs
- yawn-inducing scene with the little know-it-all girl
- disrespecting bruce lee in terms of his martial arts abilities
- useless tate/polanski side-story, changing history regarding her murder
- annoying murderous hippie anarchists (the manson gang)
- politics: including the usual WW2 mainstream media propaganda
relatively interesting parts:
- old radio stations/tunes
- suspense at the hippie farm
ugly parts:
- lots of screaming and brutality at the end, including the abuse of animals
conclusion:
that segment involving the trailer park stunt man and his dog has a scene that just about sums up this movie, where a slimy jelly-like piece of tin can dog food hits the plate, splashing chunks around in a messy way
I agree with your review, the movie was very boring and shitty, nothing like the usual Tarantino we are used to. It was a real bummer since I was so excited before watching it.
It even looks like this was about an alternate reality considering what really happened to Sharon Tate.
Totally uncalled for. This was awkward, since I saw Tarantino praising Bruce Lee and his martial art films in different occasions/interviews.- disrespecting bruce lee in terms of his martial arts abilities
This was such a let down for me, when after more than 2h of watching I was expecting something completely different. "Coitus Interrupted" feeling.- useless tate/polanski side-story, changing history regarding her murder
The only Tarantino thing about this movie.- suspense at the hippie farm
Some other interesting/funny parts:
- one of the dog's food can is "rat flavored"
- you can see Mason very briefly in the movie and then he never shows up again
- showing a poster from an Antonio Margheriti movie (easter egg related to Inglourious Basterds)
