Thread: The Chat/Spam Thread

I've spent a day or two and about 15GB downloading and redownloading and retrying all sorts of things just to make the upgrade work. I've kind of had it and will just stick with 8.1 for now. Bleh. Especially after all that crap I've been reading which is also portrayed in anon's picture.

the annoying part is that some things that are small annoyances in win8 are resolved in win10, (e.g. the thick fucking borders) but then they add other annoyances that actually matter (e.g. the keyloggers and bandwidth sharing)

(i know you can resolve the border thing with a regedit, but then things like Brackets.io stops working and I use that thing every fucking day :/ )

Always make at least two partitions - a small one for the OS, a big one for your data. That way, you don't need to worry about backing up. You could even make a VHD image of your old install beforehand and keep it around in case you need files from it, or want to go back for whatever reason.

I finally got around setting up my new laptop over the weekend. If I didn't do it during the winter break it was never going to get done. Already loving the faster speeds, denser screen and USB 3.0

Furthermore, I found it pretty hard to say no to a laptop that can do this at 60 FPS.

Is there any way I can test my USB keys for speed? I have one 32GB USb 3.0 and it's transferring files too slow!

RMPrepUSB has a speed test feature.

    Will try that!

How do I know if my W7 version is valid? Under system I have a key and it says "windows is activated", but if I start windows upgrade will it be afterwards?

I currently have a legal Win8 Pro, but am pondering to "upgrade" (clean install) to a Win10 Enterprise, which allows you to turn off the privacy invading features.
    Worth it?

I would switch to Linux if not for Visual Studio. I don't like dual booting. I might just end up installing Windows Server (also have a legal key :) )on my HTPC (currently also Win8Pro).

For those concerned with privacy in Windows 10, I found these that will resolve the issue:

https://www.reddit.com/r/conspiracy/...in_windows_10/ (https://github.com/lordfiSh/win10privacyfix) in autoit (compiled in releases) or something very similar in python: https://github.com/10se1ucgo/DisableWinTracking
    https://github.com/W4RH4WK/Debloat-Windows-10
    https://mega.co.nz/#!wMxhVJbC!ltM9wp...TA_iZ7SSRmzQv4

These overlap, so read what you're doing.

My friends old PC died. He had one disk and only one partition. My question is, can I connect his drive to new pc and copy his files?

Yes, just make sure to boot from yours, I guess.

A toy like this could also help in the future.

Costs less than $20 and turns any disk of any size factor into an (improvised) external drive.
