Does ASP count as a GUI? That has been up fairly early.

Oh cool, compiler tricks! I have a feeling it will have some downsides (e.g. not the full blown .NET but a section like they did with Win8 apps)

Currently it's limited to windows 8 apps (windows store) but they promised to bring the support to desktop either.

Hope so, though it's a big step to take. While an amazing concept, the silly part is that WinStore apps don't need such performance, while some desktop apps do. Not having to keep a second C++ project that you marshal calls to from the main C# dll would be pretty amazing.

And I think it's only fair we count asp.net, as mvc is probably the most popular "front-end" ui microsoft is currently working on.
