WARNING: Using TrueCrypt is not secure as it may contain unfixed security issues

Not only that, but the page goes on to state that the project has been closed down, following the end of support for Windows XP.

The motivation seems to be that on all supported operating systems for which TrueCrypt was available, there's now some sort of built-in full disk encryption system.

Yet more curiously, there's a new version numbered 7.2 that can apparently only decrypt, intended to help you migrate away from the now-defunct TrueCrypt product.

The 7.2 "decrypt only" version can be downloaded for Windows, OS X and Linux.

Maybe Microsoft paid them or theathen them legally. That's my first thought when they recommend to use windows 7/8's internal encryption.

anyhow the way the original trücrypt project ended was quite odd. all given info was rather confusing and didn't add up much either. given the extended background info people now have thanks to edward snowden it's not too much of a hunch to suspect something fishy there

I'm starting to believe you. They could of written it any number of ways, but this leaves suspicion behind it.
Pretty sure this is part of some fucked up master-plan of the NSA as they have been medling around with security oriented software and encryption keys.

Bitlocker is suspicios too. An open-source developer(s) would not recoment bitlocker, even as a free software. It will either point twords another open source tool or something more expensive. So, open-source tool goes down and they recomment migrating valuable data to microsoft which has connections to the NSA. It's a known fact.
