typical cheap/vulgar/current lingo, no effort made in either making it somewhat better/elevated or even era/age-adequate

at least? you're forgetting a few things like:
    - its 2014, movies aren't that good anymore, sequels/prequels/reboots/... even less so
    - 300 set the bar pretty high, it would be very hard to come close to that, regardless of the (filmmaking) era

thus, say: 'hoping it would be at least half as good' would imo be a more realistic expectation

Watched it today. They really overdid with blood and slow motion scenes! It could've been a great movie!

Rodrigo Santoro (Xerxes) is a great actor, but the movie it self is not great.

Ok, gentlemen, we already have the first BluRay releases...The question is, to wait or not to wait for the 3d?

Unless you think you're gonna love the movie, I think it's not worth waiting!

talk about a disastrous sequel, it was so bad that maybe, just maybe it could be worth watching
anyways, a quick (you wish ) list of some of the things what went wrong:

    - extra lame cgi blood splattering around (oh, the fakeness) and in slo-mo (admire the fakeness a little longer) and, well, cgi in general too (ugh)
    - extra lame and numerous p(r)ep talks/speeches for farmers-turned-soldiers (damn, those ancient farmers work out their sixpacks lol), 'gotta sacrifice yourself and die for the cause' ad nauseam
    - extra lame sex scenes (rough animalistic cliche)
    - extra nonsensical naval/hand-to-hand battles/combat (tarded tactics, arrows flying farther than what could be done by bullets...and hitting the target ofc, somehow arrows don't cause much bleeding or their impact doesn't exert much force onto the target, warriors falling/jumping from high above don't get hurt, don't even bow down a bit when hitting the ground, a huge armada suddenly isn't so huge anymore, elite warriors are skilled only when needed in the movie,...)
    - extra hilarious video-game-like sequences (riding a horse through a flame-consumed ship & jumping across ships,...)
    - extra ugly 'eva green on drugs' look, extra silly 'every hard-core feminist's wet dream' female warriors (equal or higher blood thirst compared to the males)
    - extra pointless hunchback scenes
    - extra noticeable lack of actors/stunts
    - extra eye-rolling relationships (son can't sit at his father's table, hasn't earned it yet, generals killing own kings) and training scenes (a recipe for getting ali's parkinsons)
    - extra shamelessly propagandist (we get suicide b*mbers of the past, hint: old persians~iranian ancestors)
    - extra shamelessly historically inaccurate (spartans practiced hard-core slavery, persians were actually more advanced/tolerant in that sense, seems there is much disinformation regarding the 300 and the surrounding events, unsurprisingly, civilizations often have difficulty admitting the truth about their ancestors, as opposed to blindly celebrating/idolizing that which may actually be unworthy of such honor)
    - extra shameless hollywood accounting (an obviously cheaply made movie in every regard, yet with double the original's budget, so where did the money go? certainly not into this movie - did you notice the same thing happening with a lot of recent blockbusters? not only money grab, but obvious fraud too?)
    ...

It was alright if you liked the first one, I guess.
That being said, the first one wasn't all that good and sequels are never ever any better.

I quite like Eva Green as well. But not because she's super beautiful, mostly because she has a unique face that just has something special about it. (Kinda like a young Uma Thurman...)
And eyes to die for, of course~

    And I'm a sucker for gothic make-up...

She kinda made it more bearable to watch

Just watched this movie. From the beginning onward to 1/3rd of the movie I thought it was doing a great job, explaining Artemisia's origin and then the creation of the God King, but then it suddenly starts a downfall. The protagonist has no charisma, can't transmit any emotion. His sidekick "Aeskylos" is completely useless and is totally expendable, there was absolutely no need for him in the cast. The battles are somewhat emotionless, the direction is a failure maybe it could've been different if Zack Snyder'd directed it. I think this movie suffers from the shadow of the previous one.
    it's hip to be square
