Windows 3.11 works best for the games that run in MS-DOS. It's just a colored shell placed over pure DOS.
It all depends on what you need it for, i.e what games do you need it to run.

That might just be because the latest sim game is rubbish

- doom vs doom 3
- elder scrolls vs skyrim
- starcraft vs starcraft 2
...and many many more

You cannot seriously tell me that you won't prefer the first game series ofer the latter in the examples above.

I don't like starcraft nor doom, but I quite enjoyed several parts of the elder scrolls series, including skyrim. What's wrong with skyrim?

Nothing, I just find the older varians more exciting that's all.

you would probably be right more often than not (similar to the first of a movie series, less so of an album series), however in the example above:
- doom 1 may be to heavy on the eyes/fatigue, guess doom 3 wins
- skyrim could be a winner here
- starcraft wins easily (starcraft 2 fails vs. stone, remember? )

At least with original Doom you don't have to set your monitor's brightness to 136% just to barely see where you're walking!

I remember playing it and was too scared to get out of my hiding place (in the game, obviously) and do some damage.
I just feel like older games were built wioth a lot more passion that those today.
