So, I rewatched the first Matrix movie yesterday, and have some lingering thoughts.

• When the cops and Smith chase Trinity on the rooftops and the last two make that huge jump, one of the cops says "that's impossible". Later on, the book Neo takes the disc he sells to the guy that visits him is called "Simulacra and Simulation". When Neo is late for work, his boss gives him a choice between remaining on the company or finding another job. This is all good foreshadowing.
• It sure is a good thing that the Agents merely bug Neo after the interrogation instead of sending his ass to prison, right?
• If Neo's phone was tapped, how come the Agents didn't ambush him when he went to the bridge in order to meet Morpheus?
• When meeting with Smith, Cypher says he wants to remember nothing, and be made "someone important, like an actor". Smith calls him Mr. Reagan. Ronald Reagan was an actor, someone important (as president of the United States), and in the late stages of his life was scourged by Alzheimer's disease.
• Is the cookie the Oracle gives Neo like a real-world HTTP cookie? Is that why he takes a bite but the cookie is whole again in the next scene?
• During the lobby shootout scene, the pillars and walls of the entry floor are completely smashed and wrecked. When the bomb in the elevator hits the floor and explodes in slow motion, we see debris in the floor, but the pillars are pristine. Looks like they auto-repaired
• In the "dodge this" scene, the Agent is facing Neo when he's about to shoot, but then is looking at Trinity when she delivers the famous line and headshot?
• Morpheus was sitting immobile in the room where the Agents were holding him, yet Neo's plan is to go gung-ho with the helicopter's gatling gun with no regard for that?
• In the subway station scene, when Neo escapes Smith's grasp and lets him get hit by the train, how the hell does it brake so fast?

Look, somewhere in my hard drive, I found a draft of the movie's script. Always interesting to see the parts that didn't make it in to the final edition.

I'm reading some text files, and stumbled upon this gem of a paragraph:

When the teacher comes in the classroom you and one of your friend will be fighting about a girl.
Tell your friend everything is joke. The teacher will start screaming to stop fighting but you won't
stop now the teacher can't do anything except going to the headmaster. You must be stop
"fighting" when the headmaster come. When the director ask you what's going on tell him that
 you were only arguing and nothing more and don't forget you didn't fight. Then all your friends
must say that you're saying the truth. The teacher will look like a REAL idiot. The director won't
remember this. Your teacher is now in the director "black list" haha.

All I can say is yeah, right.

Another describes a similar tactic to get food for free. Go to a Burger King with a friend and place an order. Delay payment until your food arrives, then start a fake argument with your friend ("if necessary throw fake punches") and try to get a hold of some food as security kicks you out.

aren't trinity's fighting moves in the room a few scenes before obviously impossible? what about the movie title hehe

why would they send him to a prison? afaik they didn't have much on him, besides he was a 'small fish' at the time

other than that, there are more fundamental flaws in the movie, like:
- AI (spontaneously) becomes self-aware, self-aware 'computer virus' (a popular SF/scientific fantasy)
- AI manufactures an extremely detailed world, 'artificial' out-matching 'natural' in terms of space/power/efficiency/capabilities per unit
- humans are plugged into it, able to operate in such a virtual environment as if its IRL, manipulate code on-the-fly, no one notices much,...
- humans make good batteries (to power huge factories, huge VR data centers?)
- mighty AI cannot detect humans underground (limited mobility), doesn't even make a detector grid or deploy active wide/deep range scanners
- mighty AI uses silly military tactics (send moar drones, cover no exits, secure none of the surrounding area, some negotiation maybe)
- mighty AI cannot clear the clouds/dust in the atmosphere
- mighty AI cannot find better energy sources (plenty available in current times)
- humans fighting to preserve 'zion'? lol
- 'the one' (hero/visionary) who leads the whole humanity? wrong one, i'm afraid, hehe (nothing he can do or say about the 'greater matrix' existing outside of the 'movie matrix', aka reality or real world)

She could simply be that skillful. We don't know much about the movie's world yet. But the huge jump does say a lot.

Not much besides being "guilty of virtually every computer crime we have a law for". And prison would have been a good threat to coerce him into cooperating.

Considering Morpheus was on the other side of the line, I don't think so. Perhaps they just didn't make it in time.

No, but their content can be recreated through other means if they're deleted. Or maybe the physical cookie regenerating was just a filming mistake, but the Matrix set the (virtual) cookie in Neo after he took a bite.

If I recall correctly, in one of the following movies Neo gains the ability to see Matrix code and do awesome stuff in the real world, for what amounts to no reason Personally I don't think the sequels were as bad as most people think, except that 1. they just didn't have the same level of the first movie (which is the only one in the series I've bothered to rewatch), and 2. half an hour spent in a highway shootout? Seriously?

which are relatively normal/usual hacker 'crimes', not really anti-matrix activity
its possible that they just didn't have enough damaging material regarding the above that would warrant any tougher interrogation/coercion methods, afaik neo was quite surprised by many, if not all, things that he experienced while being with the 'morpheus team' (ie. he just didn't know about it)

not sure about that one, but as i recall all those superpowers were still used within the matrix (though i think there were a few exceptions, suggesting paranormal abilities IRL due to his advanced level/state)

yeah well, i like the whole trilogy, every part has some interesting scenes and they are very entertaining in general, though haven't revisited/reloaded any of them in quite a while heh

Oh, I had forgotten about that one. The slowed-down kick could have been a camera trick, but walking on walls is pretty much impossible.
