Samsung: Galaxy S4 sales to reach 10 million next week
Samsung co-CEO Shin Jong-kyun has stated the company is "confident" that sales of its Galaxy S4 smartphone will reach the 10 million mark next week, adding it is selling much faster than the Galaxy S3.
The Samsung Galaxy S4 went on sale in late April, but the latest installment in the Android smartphone family is already setting new sales records for the series. Samsung co-CEO Shin Jong-kyun has stated the company is "confident" that the smartphone will reach the 10 million mark sometime next week.
The Korean Times reports that Shin added, "It is selling much faster than the previous model S3 ... Samsung spent 50 days to pass the 10 million sales mark for the S3. The S4 will be Samsung’s first '10 million seller’ device less than a month after its official debut."
The sales success of the Galaxy S4 has apparently come even though initial supplies of the smartphone were limited, which caused some wireless carriers in the US to delay their launches by several days in April. In addition, Verizon, the United States' largest wireless carrier, isn't expected to begin selling the S4 until May 23rd.
There have been some complaints that the 16 GB version of the Galaxy S4 only has 8.82 GB of storage that can be used by the owner, thanks to Samsung's heavy use of its own UI and programs. Samsung has since said they are "reviewing the possibility" of freeing up more storage on the 16 GB model in a future software update.
