I want to discuss the existence of private websites that require an invitation in order to be a member. The purpose they serve is not important.
Let us discuss what sites are there and how can we become members.

do you have any specific sites in mind?

Anything that's useful. I don't know of any and It might be interesting to find out what is out there.
I think it might be also important to at least know that some 'private websites' also have an interest in hiding their staging website from search engines by putting in a metatag or a text file inside their websites. I think that is how some of them might do it but someone might have to correct me if I'm wrong on this.

Oh, oh. Better use LINUX.
Yeah, if you put a text file called robots.txt with these contents in the root directory, you can prevent search engines from crawling it.
As for the thread, I'm guessing it's for questions like "I've heard of site X, what is it and how do people get in", regardless of what site X offers.Code:User-agent: * Disallow: /
"I just remembered something that happened a long time ago."
The topic wasn't defined for a specific category of sites. What sites may interest me might be useless for another and so on.As for the thread, I'm guessing it's for questions like "I've heard of site X, what is it and how do people get in", regardless of what site X offers.
I didn't meant those sites because obviously none would post them.I think it might be also important to at least know that some 'private websites' also have an interest in hiding their staging website from search engines by putting in a metatag or a text file inside their websites.
I started the topic because I don't know of any sites of this kind and I'm curios of what you guys know.
Don't want to share? That's fine. Asking nicely for the thread to be removed and that's that.
what kind of sites? sites where you can buy drugs, nuclear weapons, slaves, sites where you can rent botnets and hackers, professional killers.
No, I don't think so but more so sites where an invite is needed to get in as opposed to being allowed to register to view a site. Hackers you can rent via the Onion Tor, nuclear weapons you can buy through the black market for a cheap price, drugs you can get off the street for a bargained price, and killers you can hire through gun magazines. Well, maybe there are such sites where an invitation is needed to buy the things you've listed and you might be correct. But I think for the most part such things are available without some online membership.
But it's an interesting topic nonetheless as I'd also be curious. The only thing I can think of atm of a sites where it's invites only are exigomusic.org. But Master Razor means not just torrent related sites, any kind of sites where one can get in via an invite only. The discussion theme of that particular board does not matter either.
So to discuss this topic a bit further, I would also think that some sites where an invitation is needed to become a member would be through IRC perhaps. I mean, unless you want to advertise through the deep web and the regular web that you want membership in what-ever private site, it would reason to apply through IRC.
Also, there is email. When you come across such a site where membership via invite is required, you have to email the admin. I remember doing this at one point.

i'd say this is a myth used to inflate fears of nuclear weaponry & nuclear energy in general, the proof would be available in the complete absence of any nuclear-based attacks performed by anyone unrelated to governmental agencies - if these weapons were really available, there would have been a significant number of incidents happening around the world - if they do occasionally 'leak' to third parties, the most useful thing to do is to sell them back to the governmental representatives - the real problem might arise when they actually become small enough to fit in a pocket, but then again so does c4 (explosive) and one doesn't hear much regarding that one either, not to mention that nuclear weapons aren't very useful anywaysOriginally Posted by SealLion
there are surely many, in just about any field of human activity (from warez sites to company intranets, from private communities among friends to those of various organizations or (non)governmental agencies, from subsets of publicly known entities to completely private/independent ones, etc.) - a common thing is that its based on trust (like friends) and/or some form of membership (like a working position), to get in you would have to know someone on the inside (who could get you in or recommend/suggest the idea) and your presence might have some additional requirements (like a purpose, what can you offer to the community,...)any kind of sites where one can get in via an invite only.
usually you don't just come across such sites, they get revealed to you if you're considered to be of value/trustworthy (if they want you inside or are considering it), though its entirely possible to (over)hear something about them and i'd say that this last part is what we're discussing here, as anything else probably won't get revealed so easily/openly even with the (odd) possibility that some of the users here might be members of such communities

I've heard they give away invites very easily (even high level ones).
How is the site? The same as your last visit or has it massivly changed?Unbelievable. I completely forgot that I had an account there.
