Based on a true story, "Moneyball" is a movie for anybody who has ever dreamed of taking on the system. Brad Pitt stars as Billy Beane, the general manager of the Oakland A's and the guy who assembles the team, who has an epiphany: all of baseball's conventional wisdom is wrong. Forced to reinvent his team on a tight budget, Beane will have to outsmart the richer clubs. The onetime jock teams with Ivy League grad Peter Brand (Jonah Hill) in an unlikely partnership, recruiting bargain players that the scouts call flawed, but all of whom have an ability to get on base, score runs, and win games. It's more than baseball, it's a revolution – one that challenges old school traditions and puts Beane in the crosshairs of those who say he's tearing out the heart and soul of the game.

It's a good movie, but I honestly don't know why it's nominated for an oscar!

Moneyball" is a movie for anybody who has ever dreamed of taking on the system.
which means everybody, eh? its a movie that exploits certain exceptions (which exist as such due to the system predictability, conformity & directionality) to bolster the claim how 'thinking differently' will empower you to beat the system, which is partially correct, but gets superficially treated/presented (attracting attention, pandering to the audience) in order to hammer-down the moviemaker's real agenda which is: 'think differently' in order to become better than the system at its own game, where one hasn't really beaten the system, but rather devised ways to do the same (in effect: become the same), just more efficiently than it was done by the system - which then results in the system adopting these more efficient methods, incorporating them into its future modus operandi, meaning: these 'thinkers' were actually helping the system to become better at what it does, in effect fortifying its position, making the playground even harder for the upcoming players, achieving an even tighter directionality than before

    It's more than baseball, it's a revolution
actually, its less than baseball, its economically steered/managed baseball business with maximum profit (& control/power) as the top priority, but then again, as soon as it became a rigid/mindless business, the core intentions haven't changed anyways, regardless of such revolutions (which may hint at what actually and eventually happens to all or at least the majority of revolutions of any kind)

and btw, the movie was pretty boring, pitt was gets-old-real-fast over-the-top, his wonder-boy incredibly redundant, which can be said for the final product as well

for a better baseball-related movie see: The Fan (1996)
