Android on Nokia ; It wasn't meant to be...

Nokia's Android flirtations revealed -- Engadget

    --------------------

We don't know if this device is "super confidential" or not, but we've just come across yet another Nokia N9 lookalike with a non-MeeGo operating system on board. Well, it looks that way, anyhow. There's no way to verify that the Android homescreen we see above is a legitimate Gingerbread installation and not a mere screenshot (the resolution looks all wrong, for one thing), but the source of this image is the same Chinese fellow that posted a picture of Nokia's Windows Phone prototype, the Sea Ray, way back in May, so we're inclined to believe he's got an inside line on these things. Additionally, the undersized Android UI elements on the screen actually encourage us to believe that this is indeed a Nokia testing device -- if we were going to fake something like this, we'd use a regular screen grab for our tomfoolery -- and Stephen Elop has openly admitted that Nokia spent a couple of wild seconds contemplating a switch to Android. Well, folks, here's what that alternate future might have looked like.
    --------------------

Right now their is a huge buzz of anticipation about Nokia's WP7 devices.Nokia better hope they've got all bases covered otherwise their stock will fall faster than we can say "Ice Cream Sandwich"

Why do you opine that, if I may ask??

I can't say I was a fan of Nokia before their debacle, but it wasn't too shabby. Now-a-days it's a different story altogether. Their software let them down and they dug their own graves by opting to invest in making their own OS which turned out to be unpopular.

Nokia is not doomed. It just went for a hibernation. Android or Windows , it surely will come back. With the Windows deal, Nokia has access to legacy products by Microsoft which is very much present in non - smartphone market. Adding to the Nokia's hardware robustness, which could give an edge to it.

the biggest problem right now with windows phone is that microsoft doesn't allow other browser engines than ie.
i know there are other browsers available, but under the hood it's always ie.
so microsoft can change this, or nokia will be forced to turn to android after all.

The cruel reality here is that they had a nice ecosystem going and than they blew it by not staying on top of things. Symbian wasn't the best OS but it was a good competitor given the right upgrade, and a lot of people have reacted quite nice to Anna and Belle. Android on Nokia is not the best of stories and neither is Windows, but given the right nourishment it could take off. The android ecosystem has become too fragmented and that isn't helping and the windows phone is still taking off the ground. The solution should have been something like iOS, low to the system with easy migration between devices with different form-factors and most important of all apps. In today's market and big boom would have been legacy support for the apps in either google or apple market on a new well performing open os, but I don't think we're going to see that too soon.
