    Lightbulb Which AntiVirus is best?

There is no best per se.

Please vote for the AV you find to be best coupled with an explanation. Thanks!

I always used Avira Antivir Personal. Don't have any explanation... but I've never had problem with virus on my PC. But the best way is be carful... the problem is the user not the antivirus lol

for me all of them sucks ,
norton i think it collects viruses not protect from them
kaspersky cause problems like system crashes every couple of minutes

maybe AVG or avira , for me i use USB antivirus just for the autorun virus

The heuristic analysis in Avira is superb. G-Data has been said to be a top notch better.

AVG is not to recommend at all. Pure bloatware and generally a bad AV.

There is a small and light weight anti-virus called Vipre. I've been using it for about a year now on one of my OS and it is actually not too bad. I like it simply b/c it's light weight and is not bloat-ware as most other people find with the usual AV.

I've found divided opinions on Vipre, some say it's very good, others a scam. I guess it matters less if you pirate their product.

From what I read some time ago, it used to be associated with Kerio AV.

I like to read reviews on softwares before installing them permanently on my computer and I didn't find any bad reviews of the sort.

You know....you can find divided opinions on different softwares and I think it's just a matter of personal taste, experience with what one used and hence made up his/her mind about some software ( whether good or bad ), personal preference, and even wanting to try out something different.

That's basically what I did. Try out something different as opposed to what some of the other more well known AV software developers make. It's definitely not bloatware and doesn't come packaged with a tonne of stuff that you don't need. I find it simple, fast, and secure. The only thing that I found with it is that you have to add this site to it's website exclusion list.

I just was reading a review on G-Data and all I can say is that I"m glad I don't use that one. Apparently, when this thing scans the CPU usage goes through the roof. Not to mention that G-Data is supposedly also overpopulated with confusing and too numerous settings.

Here's one review that turned me off:

No kidding. I bet it is. With the amount of tabs set just for the user's settings I'd say I'd have to agree with the review link given above. It isn't for the casual home PC user.
