what a deceiving concept, a (beaver) puppet changes one's life around - naturally, this change has nothing to do with the actual puppet, but rather with the man who took control of his life and changed it the way he wants to live it, but of course, one cannot expect a clear answer from the entertainment industry, as they are not working on educating people but quite the opposite, on confusing them with nonsense like in this movie
so they use ambiguous characters & phrases, teasing you constantly with familiar yet unclear concepts, keeping you hooked as if you'll learn something from it, for example: the 'beaver' may mean the man needs a 'hall pass':

it connects also with animal spirits (or guardians/guides) according to some traditional beliefs, but also with the 'personified' voice of the subconscious
it goes into a 'forrest gump' of depression kind of mode, where in a thoroughly unbelievable twist, the man with a puppet running around and acting all crazy becomes a success story (profitable for the puppet sales), whereas in reality he would probably spend the rest of his life locked away in a mental institution - notice how there is no comedy element, except for the talking beaver and the character roles seem over-acted into absurdity
