Not sure of what it could be, then. CoreAVC works fine in my netbook, with MPC-HC. A final thing you could try is setting the renderer (Options -> Playback -> Output) to "Overlay Mixer" and restart, in case it's not like that already. Adding an exception for MKV files in your antivirus may also speed things up.

just open media player classic and go to view>options
in internal filter uncheck the 2 options in transform column close media player and reopen and it's done
also i recomend in avc options untick agressive deinterlace and in interlace put none weave

if this options are on it will override any other comand even if you put preferred decoder on AVC

One anomaly I've noticed when trying to play a video file (avi, mkv, etc.) in winows while I'm downloading files in uT is the audio chops out every 10 seconds or so. No problems with syncing, it just cuts audio for a half a second I've updated to the latest version, 1.1.8, but still seems to occur. Anyone else encountered this?

Not to burst anyone's bubble here but the cleanest and the most advanced is MPC-HC.
If you know to choose your filters, you got it made.
No installer, internal filters, config stored in .ini file, no messy file associations and registry keys made.

Yes, MPC is good. A shame I couldn't find a fix for that 100% CPU bug. Had been using it since 2006 (it was able to open FLV and other formats! No need to install two players to watch those downloaded YouTube videos!).

VLC, MPC, Kmplayer, PotPlayer or others. They are all good players even for tech savvy people that look for picture and audio quality. It's all a matter of configuration. As for me I use them all, but lately I switched to Plex on the TV just out of comfort. It's not bad but a computer attached with hdmi using any of the others is way better.
Back to VLC, I find that it came a long way during the years but so did the others. It's hard to differentiate between all of them if configured up to par but out of the box you might draw a line somewhere.
