You'll have to be more specific. What kind of ripping are we talking about?

You want to do some scene release or just Rip for your own. If you got Nvidia Card with CUDA support on te board DVDFab HD Decrypter+DVDFab Video Converter/DVDFab Blu-Ray Ripper/DVDFab DVD Ripper make x264 rips much faster than most of other programs.

There are tutorials on their site:
DVDFab Manual - DVD Ripper - Conversion Settings

If I may ask, what is best software for converting video files? I have a few FLV files and I'd like them in avi or mp4.

Blu-ray or regular DVD source? You'll want to check out mkvtoolnix, tsMuxer, AnyDVD HD.

SUPER or viDrop. The first one's probably less esoteric and thus easier to use.

@BaMbO from my experience the best ripper and encoder is MeGui
It is highly configurable. Does all major formats and of course x264 mkv or avi, mp4 etc

Can set to do the absolute highest possible quality (very slow) to extremely bad (few min) of whatever format

EAC stands for Exact Audio Copy, and is the actual app you use for CD ripping.
