as expected, that campaign has nothing to do with 'saving' tigers, rather its a way to increase company profits & environmental image by using cheap emotional trickery:

    The Great Indian Hoax

The Save Our Tigers Campaign by Aircel has been a great tool to generate publicity for the Company. What? Only 1411 Tigers left? The assertion of the number in itself was strange, because nobody can ever be sure of their population. Most of us have failed to understand that there are ulterior motives to this Campaign by the moderately successful Telecom Company. It is clear that they have commercially exploited our National Animal. Yes, awareness about Tigers has been generated but the Campaign itself has always been a mercantile one. They could just have used any other animal, but they are fully aware that no other Animal is associated with the Country’s pride as much as the Tiger. Hence this movement did achieve success in touching the emotional chords of the general public.

as for the 'excess' of males in india:

Sex-selective abortion is the practice of terminating a pregnancy based upon the predicted sex of the fetus. The selective abortion of female fetuses is most common in areas where cultural norms value male children over female children, [1] especially in parts of People's Republic of China, Korea, Taiwan, and India.[1][2]

A 2005 study estimated that over 90 million females were "missing" from the expected population in Afghanistan, Bangladesh, China, India, Pakistan, South Korea and Taiwan alone, and suggested that sex-selective abortion plays a role in this deficit.[2][3] Some research suggests that culture plays a larger role than economic conditions in gender preference and sex-selective abortion, because such deviations in sex ratios do not exist in sub-Saharan Africa, Latin America, and the Caribbean.[2] Other demographers, however, argue that perceived gender imbalances may arise from the underreporting of female births, rather than sex-selective abortion or infanticide.

Gender bias can broadly impact a society, and it is estimated that by 2020 there could be more than 35 million young "surplus males" in China and 25 million in India.[8]

It's the volume that concerns me, specially because it is becoming a thread oligopoly
