World's Most Considerate Computer Thief Backs Up Victim's Data, Mails It to Him

When a professor at Sweden's Umea University had his computer stolen, he was devastated by the loss of his data more than anything. But a week after the theft, he got a package in the mail: A USB drive.

The thief had backed up his data and mailed it to him. Writes The Local:

The professor was shocked to discover the thief had copied all the documents and personal files from his laptop to the memory storage device, a process which likely took hours.

All things considered, the professor is delighted at the outcome, despite the loss of his computer.

Wonder if this guy was planning to do this all along, or if he was wracked by guilt and sleepless nights once he discovered the professor's data on the computer, "Tell-tale Heart" style. Either way, he's still a jerk.

    Aww...

If only this were the norm rather than the exception...

oh wait, it still doesn't change the fact that he stole it nonetheless

If it took hours to copy the data onto the Stick, then it must have been a lot of gigabytes! Therefore the USB-Drive was likely to be quite expensive. So no poor student stole that computer, it was another professor or some kind of colleague who knew the value of the Data! No drunk student would have cared about that!

Maybe I stole the USB drive when I took the computer.

it could be that there just was too many files, having 3000 files that are about 1 gb when combined and one file that is 1 gb will have a huge time difference since one file is transferred much more easily and faster, anyone who ever transferred their image/porn collection to an external drive knows what I mean (all those damn 300-500 kb .jpegs take two trillion hours)

so if the prof's computer was full of the stuff they were researching it could either be that he had too many files or that it would take the thief hours to collect all those files from his research from the different folders or whatever and put them in the usb
