    MAFIAAs want Governments implant spyware to monitor our PC

    Big Content's dystopian wish-list for the US gov't: spyware, censorship, physical searches and SWAT teams

    Cory Doctorow at 6:25 AM April 15, 2010

    The MPAA and RIAA have submitted their master plan for enforcing copyright to the new Office of Intellectual Property Enforcement. As the Electronic Frontier Foundation's Richard Esguerra points out, it's a startlingly distopian work of science fiction. The entertainment industry calls for:

    * spyware on your computer that detects and deletes infringing materials;
    * mandatory censorware on all Internet connections to interdict transfers of infringing material;
    * border searches of personal media players, laptops and thumb-drives;
    * international bullying to force other countries to implement the same policies;
    * and free copyright enforcement provided by Fed cops and agencies (including the Department of Homeland Security!).

    In name of "intellectual property protection" we are going straight to fascism. US Founding Fathers will turn over in their graves

    maybe you'll be surprised, but fascism is already there, for an obvious proof just take a look at the 'fasces' symbols used by ancient roman empire, the usa fedeal government and the fascist nationalist ideology - one might wonder why haven't they just created a different unique symbol for themselves, instead of continuously using the old ones, could it be that they are all related, representing the same goals, hence the same symbolism?

    as for the founding fathers, the majority of them were supposedly (free)masons, and that organization has remained very influential up to these days, so its quite likely that they are actually content/engaged (as they were back then) with the direction usa is taking

    Interresting. I will investigate further.

    They surely were free masons, but imo the Mafiaas are to them what Talibans are to Averroes or Rumi.

    And Jefferson's position about "intellectual property" was very cautious:

    Stable ownership is the gift of social law, and is given late in the progress of society. It would be curious then, if an idea, the fugitive fermentation of an individual brain, could, of natural right, be claimed in exclusive and stable property. If nature has made any one thing less susceptible than all others of exclusive property, it is the action of the thinking power called an idea, which an individual may exclusively possess as long as he keeps it to himself; but the moment it is divulged, it forces itself into the possession of every one, and the receiver cannot dispossess himself of it. Its peculiar character, too, is that no one possesses the less, because every other possesses the whole of it. He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. That ideas should freely spread from one to another over the globe, for the moral and mutual instruction of man, and improvement of his condition, seems to have been peculiarly and benevolently designed by nature, when she made them, like fire, expansible over all space, without lessening their density in any point, and like the air in which we breathe, move, and have our physical being, incapable of confinement or exclusive appropriation. Inventions then cannot, in nature, be a subject of property.

    Man, this is messed up. I don't expect that wishlist to get through, but still... If they would do that, there would be no more privacy. Let's hope it never comes that far.
