Automatically translate subtitle files with Open Subtitle Translator

If you download subtitles for downloaded movies and TV shows, you might have run into the following scenario – the subtitle you are looking for is available but it’s in another language. Needless to say its frustrating when this happens as you’ll have to wait for someone to upload the correct file which could take maybe several days or may (that is, IF someone uploads it at all). Open Subtitle Translator is a handy tool to have in such situations – it’s a small program that can automatically translate a subtitle file from one language to the other. Note that Translation services are powered by Google Translate and you’ll need an internet connection to make it work.

sounds nice and all, but i doubt this tool would be of much assistance, since google translator has difficulties in interpretation & sentence forming, so one might end up in missing half of the movie trying to decipher google's output

This is not bad, though the only thing that I'd like to say about it is the fact that it uses Google Translator.
Google Translator could use some improvements in the form of translating from one language to another. It's definitly not perfect.
IMHO, I don't find that it's all that great.

But then again, what other translators are there out there other than the one's that one has to pay for??

And I am not too sure how those are.
Maybe an improvement over Google Translator??

actually, maybe this proggy isn't all that bad afterall.

Did anyone watch movie translated with automatic translators? It's absolutely horrendous :)
The only kind of movie I could imagine working with automatic translation would be a silent era porn :)

I thank op for nice find and share, but as for app author I think he just made proliferation of bad subs easier :)

yeah, it can be somewhat useful for those who make subtitles (as opposed to making them from scratch)

I think that the reason why it's called 'bablefish', is b/c it littterally is babel......it don't make-a-lick-'o-sense.

Sad thing is that both Babelfish and Altavista Search (Altavista made Babelfish) were the first and the best of their kind when they appeared, way before the Google, only to get trumped over in time :)
