    Outpost pro is good, and you can add an ipfilter on it, and the detection is really good too...
    i'm on iPredator and in 24h i received 45 attacks... before i use HIPS system and now there is no problem, only with Outpost and good parameters :p

    There a number of software firewalls out there. Personally, I view software firewalls as a last ditch defense to keep someone who managed to hack access into the internal network from running exploits. IMHO, all machines that have incoming connections from the Internet (FTP, WWW, etc.) should be behind a hardware router, and only the incoming ports (80, 443) be allowed in.

    Some software firewalls are more secure than others.

    There's a very easy way to check your firewall leaks, instead of downloading each security checks listed in table that is mentioned in your post, individually.

    1. download "Security Software Testing Suite" from link below (Free)

    Security Software Testing Suite - www.matousec.com

    2. Then run the SSTS and go to this link

    My leaks - www.matousec.com

    and this will show you all cumulative results under one window

    Now lets come to that question again

    Generally I recommend Outpost Pro. However, you may want to check:

    Preferred Personal Firewalls - 2009 Member Choice Software Forum Member Choice - dslreports.com

    DSLr's great firewall poll of 2009. There are user comments on why people voted for what firewall. It may come down to checking out several.

    This is not regarding your question but my personal experience with software firewalls;

    I have mixed feelings about software firewalls.

    One hand they are better than nothing, on the other hand they are worse than anything doen in dedicated hardware.

    NAT routers have built-in firewalls, and an old 200MHz machine can be converted with Smoothwall software into an excellent dedicated firewall.

    The only advantage of software firewalls that I can see is that they monitor outbound traffic... but then they can be compromised...

    Keeping your machine clean and using a hardware firewall is my recommendation, and it's what I do.
