Wikileaks: Switzerland: real-time internet interception starts August 1st.

oh, oh....I guess Europe is getting more and more in the grasp of your friendly-neighborhood big brother.

Throughout the world, internet interception, monitoring, and potential blockage is beginning to affect more and more people.

You'll have to go to the Wikileaks site to download the .pdf docs. There's one in German and one in English.

    check it out, though.

    July 17, 2009
    Summary

These confidential documents detail information on an official program for centralized, real-time, interception of Internet traffic in Switzerland. The interception will start on August 1, 2009.
The documents are those referenced yesterday by the Swiss-German weekly newspaper WOZ
    er....that's like next month.

Here's the link to the wikileaks article.

In English, Google translator give's me this:

Confidential documents that the WOZ available, show: The federal government plans to fully monitor the Internet traffic of suspected persons. From 1 August, the Internet provider, ie the provider of Internet access, technical upgrade. In future, they are able to use the Internet to their customers directly to the authorities.

    suspected of what, I wonder....??

Apparantly, the state also want's to read discussions in that person's chat rooms or entries in some of the forums he or she may be a member of as well as listening in to VOIP conversations or looking to see if they have a webcam enabled.

use your google translator to translate other content from the Swiss article.

Anyways, the link to the WOZ article can be got from the Wikileaks article or from here:

well, lets just say that it has been done for years now in one form or another - if the swiss government is starting now (and who knows what version of the spying methods they used before, know what i mean?) you can rest assured that the usa has a system that is a few levels above the swiss one, so no one should have any illusions that this is a new thing (just beginning), remember the echelon project that started during the cold war

    suspected of what, I wonder....??
you know how it goes, everyone can be a suspect, it could be parking tickets for what they care - the spying is done all the time and illegal too, but ofc no one will admit it openly as it would raise too many questions (hot potatoes) - the citizens can only hope that these gathered information is not abused for personal gains or industrial espionage, but guess what - it does

as for explanations, they usually use something the majority approves of, like hunting down terrorists or child molesters or some other universal bad guys, at the same time leaving out the inconvenient truth that everyone is under surveillance and at some point in time can become a suspect - if only for speaking their mind or opinions - that's the ugly truth of our present situation

Yup. So well said, I would agree with you.

the excuses made up would be for some national interest sort-of-excuse.

Or even to make sure that somebody doesn't say the wrong thing or point out the wrong thing to others about a goverment official or department that is doing something against that (or any country, for that matter) country's constitution ( you know this happens throughout Euro and North America---Canada supposedly collects more info on it's own citizens than the US does---apparantly. But that's just from what I understand and heard)

Wire-tapping is already here throughout the world in most western country's and in Eastern country's like Russia and China and obviously worse things of the spying sort happen in North Korea, and is no doubt used for the same or similar purposes.....basically for the same reason as all others.
