Afghanistan 'needs more US troops'

Here's a report from one of the military people in that country:

US military commanders in Afgahnistan have told the US special envoy to the region that they need more troops to bring security to the country, a report in The New York Times has said.

The military chiefs gave their assessment to Richard Holbrooke during his visit to regional command centres in Afghanistan over the past two days, the newspaper reported on Sunday.

........mainly b/c the Taliban insurgency has gotten better over there and also has become more sophisticated.

didn't expect that the opposite would happen anyways - that might change depending on the number of us body-bags returning to home, and btw. where is obama now with his peace selling talks, it was just blowing smoke, eh?

I heard on the news since last year that the Taliban, who control virtually the entire countryside, with the exception of the major towns and city's in Afghanistan, have been gaining strength.

I think that the prez of Afghanistan....Karzhai, if I remember correctly, is held in place onlly as a symbolic measure. I think that the country is still ruled by warlords....the same ones that keep Karzai in position.

what i meant was: didn't expect the us troops would lower their numbers or presence in the area anytime soon - on the contrary

interesting twist - didn't the usa supply talibans with ammo/weapons/training against the russians some years ago and now have to fight against their former allies?

oh, ya....absolutely they did. ..I remember that very well. That was when REagan .....er....Raygun was in office, yes??


I am of the opinion that some of the tactics that the Taliban are using now against thier opponents, they learned from the USa troops during that time in the '80's.

How to fight guerrilla warfare in the mountains, get information from your opponents when captured, how to infiltrate the enemy in his own territory,...etc...etc...
