    Firefox 3.5 Vulnerability Confirmed

    Mozilla yesterday confirmed the first security vulnerability in Firefox 3.5, and said that the bug could be used to hijack a machine running the company's newest browser.

    It's been already patched on the development builds. In the meantime, you can go to about:config and set javascript.options.jit.content to false, like the article said.

    You mean the fix? I don't think so, as the vulnerability was introcued by a new TraceMonkey javascript engine that came along v. 3.5.

    From what I know, that value enables or disables the TraceMonkey JavaScript Engine:
    TraceMonkey adds native-code compilation to Mozilla's JavaScript engine (known as "SpiderMonkey"). It is based on a technique developed at UC Irvine called "trace trees", and building on code and ideas shared with the Tamarin Tracing project. The net result is a massive speed increase both in the browser chrome and Web-page content.
    You may notice a slight performance decrease on sites that heavily use JavaScript, like Facebook, for example.

    Remember the next Firefox version will already fix this, it'd then be safe to set the value to true again.
