There's no option for that at the moment, but you can choose to send a fake share ratio (download multiplier). If you need that for security reasons, remember anti-P2P groups don't care about announces, so as long as you keep "upload data" unticked you should be fine.

I would like to try and contribute with speed results but seems i cant download anything from: sb-innovation.de/f215/ (and therfore can't snatch modded bitthief) and on the main page it says "Member title needed". Im really sorry that im bringing this offtopic up but i have hard time finding out how to achive that member title (just please dont say that i need some amount of posts because i really don't feel good about spamming forums for member titles).

You can still try the official BitThief on public torrents.

I read this post now for the first time. First a big thanks to Someguy, you definitely deserve +rep.
I have tested it with a popular file, Top 40 single UK from btjunkie (1.110 seed and 2738 leech) Downloaded first with BT then with azureus SB with my normal setup, without "no upload" but UL speed set to 1 Kb/s.
The result is impressive, BT connects faster at start, and keeps a better average; in the last 100 mb of the file I registered a download speed of 800 Kb/s !!! Azureus speed was 250/300 Kb/s instead.
With BT there were 2 peers in particular that gave me the most part of bandwith.
I also modified the max number of connections to 400; no problems with my router. I can do other tests if necessary, just tell me, I got azureus and utorrent, normal and modified, installed on my computers.

Awesome James73. Could you please compare BT to Deluge? Many people think deluge is faster than Vuze or uTorrent, so we would like to know whether it is or not And whether it could be faster than BT.

I had no deluge installed so had to configure it; nice client, is it originally designed for linux? Tested the same file "Top 40 hits UK", It connects to seed and peer very fast but the average speed is lower then in azureus. It had a weird default configuration, so I tried to adjust it as much as possible but the speed doesn't go higher than 100 Kb/s, even if the number of seed and peer connected are much more then my previous tests with BT and Vuze.
With my first test I can say no, it's not at all faster then BT. Do you know how to setup deluge for the max performance? Perhaps I'm missing something.

Well many factors can affect these tests. Again I try a movie from btjunkie, The Fifth Commandment, 1419 seed / 3436 leech:
Seems to go slow with BitThief... after 5 min it starts to go faster than 50 Kb/s.
For now the fastest seems to be utorrent with the negative number trick.

Now I need to go away from internet for a while, I'll come back this night for more leeching tests :)

Deluge uses GTK. This makes it another Vuze when it comes to resource usage, but FSF's tests proved it several times faster than uTorrent on a public torrent. Deeper testing (such as yours ) would be needed to really know this, though.

About settings, have a look at this:

May not be up-to-date, but it's the only thing I could find.

Also there is an important variable which is who are the first peers the client will connect to at first. Sometimes a client might connect to a very fast peer, and stick to it, so you get great speeds.
What about stopping and restarting the download every 10 to 15 minutes (or less or more, it is up to you) and taking the average to account for this variable?
BTW we all thank you for this test you are doing.

That's right. Due to the dynamic nature of P2P in general, it is hard to determine things such as which client is faster.

And on the next reconnect, that peer that gave you great speeds may have opened enough slots to prevent him from uploading to you again.

I dont know why but Deluge sucks in my machine...even with the new settings:
Tested the movie I did mention before, with deluge after 15 min there are:
    - seeds 70(842) peers 103(1661) DL speed 18 Kb - UP speed 0,2
The same file downloaded with Vuze (with "no uploads") reached 750 kb/s in 5 minutes, almost my max possible download speed!

    Here are my deluge settings:
    max connections 400
    max upload slot: -1 (unlimited)
    max download speed -1,0 (unlimited)
    max upload speed 2 Kb/s
    max half-open connections 250
    max connection-attempts per seconds 100

there are two new settings in the latest version:
    -ignore local network limits (yes)
    -limit tcp/ip overhead (no)

    per torrent bandwidth usage:

    max connections -1 (unlimited)
    max upload slots 5
max up and down speed -1 (unlimited).

    Test results BitThief dl speed 783 Kb/s - uTorrent 817 Kb/s - Deluge 420 Kb/s.

You aren't alone... it barely works on mine aswell. It connects to very few peers, regardless of my settings. I swapped to Vuze (Extreme Mod) and that works perfectly.

Deluge may be sluggish due to GTK, but 18kB/s while you get 750kB/s with Vuze is a bit too much. Try some conservative settings:

    • Max connections: 200
    • Max upload slots: 6
    • Max download speed: -1
    • Max upload speed: Anything from 6 to 11, even if you aren't limiting TCP/IP overhead.
    • Max half-open connections: 50
    • Max connection attempts per second: 20

    Per torrent settings:

    • Max connections: 40
    • Max upload slots: 2
    • Max upload and download speed: -1

Also, is it just me or Deluge doesn't have any Disk Cache settings?

From some searches it appears it doesn't even have a disk cache; the coders believe a disk cache is something that an OS should include, not a program.

    Thanks for confirming.

Yes, Windows has a disk cache too, but for a BitTorrent client a built-in one is useful, because it can store blocks that are requested all the time, unlike Windows's cache, which during a normal work session eventually has to remove old content to make room for new blocks. This would make Deluge have to fetch the data from the disk again.

Tests speed BitThief vs Azureus (with no upload):

File: "Trasformers 2 revenge of the fallen"

    241 seeds - 2119 leechers

    BitThief:

    5 min 17 Kb/s
    10 min 96 Kb/s
    15 min 100 Kb/s
    20 min 85 Kb/s
    30 min 60 Kb/s
    40 min 80 Kb/s

    Azureus SB Mod

    5 min 20 Kb/s
    10 min 55 Kb/s
    15 min 23 Kb/s
    20 min 110 Kb/s
    30 min 105 Kb/s
    40 min 85 Kb/s

    ------------------------------------------------------------------

    File: Vista Black 32bit
    73 seeds and 1148 leechers:

    BitThief:

    5 min 45 kb/s
    10 min 13 Kb/s
    15 min 75 Kb/s
    20 min 40 Kb/s
    25 min 62 Kb/s
    30 min 45 Kb/s
    40 min 58 Kb/s

    Azureus:

    5 min 19 kb/s
    10 min 20 Kb/s
    15 min 23 Kb/s
    20 min 30 Kb/s
    25 min 14 Kb/s
    30 min 27 Kb/s
    40 min 52 Kb/s

The behavior is so strange, sometimes it is faster sometimes not, well for what I have tested I don't think BitThief is much better then other clients but maybe it connects tp faster peers...
    More tests later
