ONe thing that I"ve discovered about CCleaner is that when one wants to use the 'wiping' component of the program, I find that its not as good as, lets say, Cyberscrub.
Cyberscrub seems to genuinely wipe the data stored in various folders. Here's what I mean: When I wANT to wipe something 37 times over, for example, I just feel that it doesn't really do the job as good as Cyberscrub would, if I were to wipe something 37 times over.
But then again, cyberscrub will also wipe the NTFS logs and the free space with random data.
IDK....can't put my finger on it, but I just feel that Cyberscrub seems to do a better job of wiping any unwanted data from the computer. Maybe 'better job' is not the right phrase, perhaps, 'realistically' {sorry if my choice of descriptive words is not good this morning}.
It does have more options available for wiping custom proggys as well.
Whereas CCLeaner just doesn't seem to wipe data genuinely.
overall, CCleaner isn't such a bad proggy though.
I do appreciate that the program's authors are expanding the program to include more options to clean the registry, make cleaning that part better, including to clean other common and popular programs into ccleaner.
But anyways...I just wanted to mention that about the 'wiping' component of ccleaner. Like I said. I just don't feel that it wipes as good as other wiping programs do.
It just seems to wipe them too quickly, whereas, cyberscrub will take more time. For instance, wiping something 7 times should take an appropriate time as per the number of wiping times with random data.
Ccleaner just doesn't seem to take an appropriate amount of time to wipe data.
I mean, when wanting to wipe data, should the wiping process {as per the number of wiping times}, at least not take that much more appropriate time??
Thats probably the best way for me to question the results or degree of effectiveness of the wiping component in CCLEANER vs cyberscrub.

CCleaner will wipe data with NUL (00 00 00...) passes every time (I think). This may be faster because it can command (well, maybe it tells the WinAPI to do this, which will then do it, but nvm) the disk to "fill sectors xxxxxxx to xxxxxxx with 00s", instead of having to "tell" it what every new byte will be, like you said Cyberscrub does, as it fills the space with random data.
As regarding for "wiping the NTFS logs", I don't know if CCl does this, so that's a point in favor of Cyberscrub :)
And yes, it is "better" that CS takes more time to wipe your stuff that CCl, because it's filling the empty space with random bytes: this makes it even harder to recover the data that was there than if it had done just 35 "null" passes (which already makes the process very difficult for software data recovery)

Null passes: the more passes, the (even) harder it's to recover the data that was there. Can be detected, as it'll leave a big amount of 00s in a row, which for data recovery specialists is like reading "[a file was here but wiped]"
Random passes: same as null passes, but if not impossible, it makes it very, very difficult to recover the data through software means (have to resort to hardware recovery that takes your HDD's magnetic plates, etc.). It also doesn't make it as obvious that there was something there, but I'm sure that if WinHex has a "simulate encrypted data" option to wipe files, it's because experts can "see through" random bytes and still tell something has been deleted.

I am going .to see if Winhex actually does what it states to do
you can inspect and edit all kinds of files, recover deleted files or lost data from hard drives with corrupt file systems or from digital camera cards.
It does (but you need a forensic or advanced licence to access the good stuff). Has even recovered a full partition I thought was lost forever for me, without any errors or corrupted files.
