Mostly because I want to start collecting movies/series for me and my family to enjoy. Streaming as you said sucks and I don't want to be dependent on which movie is on which platform etc etc.

Even for casual users, streaming didn't make a full and complete replacement due to licensing issues, but it sure was getting fairly close before being fractured across a dozen different services
Anyway, if you were active from 2005 to 2010, you must have already noticed that things changed a lot (for the better on some regards, for the worse on others) and many names from that era are long defunct and forgotten! Some days ago I was remembering an attempt at a private tracker called SceneLife...

I'm a student and learning German. Hoping to have a good time here in this forum. Been exploring topics and I must admit it's a great forum so far. My main interest lies in usenet indexers currently.
Und ich bin dabei, Deutsch zu lernen, als mein Studium auf Deutsch steht. Tut mir leid falls es bisschen komisch klingt, aber ja, bin noch nicht so gewohnt an der Sprache.

bin seit 2012 oder so aktiv bei p2p dabei - immer über öffentliche tracker wie rarbg, rutracker, etc. - und habe mich seit diesem Jahr was das Setup angeht ein bisschen professionalisiert. Neuer Server mit docker auf dem deluge und *arr suite läuft befinde mich grade auf bestem Wege ins usenet umzusteigen. Daher auch hier der kleine Vorstellungspost, in der Hoffnung ein bisschen was über die "private" Trackerszene zu lernen. Auch immer aktiv am reddit posts verfolgen, aber bisher eher mäßigen Erfolg gehabt was inbesondere deutsche Tracker angeht. Bin gespannt was hier noch so kommt, denn der großteil des Forums erscheint mir doch recht inaktiv 😅

Trackers sound like a pain :)
Usenet is.... Maybe a little expensive but good alternative.
I don't get enough time to maintain ratios and stuff so yeah.
Edit: I'm fairly new to this thing. Maybe 3 months. Suggest me good indexers.

Usenet can cover 99% of most people's needs with no ratio drama, but I'd at least keep some good public trackers in your bookmarks. The time will come when you need to find that other 1%. And you know what else is nice? eMule!

It depends a lot on what you are looking for.
General stuff like North American TV? Geek
Harder to find releases of Worldwide Cinema? Dog
Things you could find in trackers? Finder
A mix of all above? Drunken Slug and NZBs.su.

But if you specify a little more your needs I could suggest better: just open a new thread about it at the Usenet section, since here is just the Welcome thread.

ich wollte den Channel mal nutzen, um mich vorzustellen. Ich bin seit etwa fünf Jahren mit dem P2P-Bereich vertraut, bisher jedoch eher zurückhaltend und hauptsächlich als Mitleser unterwegs gewesen. Aber das wird sich ändern!
Mein Interessensfokus liegt dabei klar auf der Backend-Infrastruktur und dem Networking.
Ich bin gespannt, was ich hier noch alles lernen kann.
