GTA IV Is "A Threat To American Values"

Syndicated columnist Michael Medved writes on the consistently awful Townhall.com that Grand Theft Auto IV "highlights the real threat to the American Way of Life", what he calls "the war on middle class values." We're having a hard time making sense of Medved's logic, but he attempts to explain how America is going to Hell in a handbasket by writing "the decision by so many consumers of every age and income group to invest countless hours of time in the dark world of Grand Theft Auto IV nonetheless demonstrates a threat to American values."

Medved points to GTA IV's release on the cusp of an economic recession and its sixty dollar price tag as seemingly puzzling in light of its "stunning" success, selling 6 million copies in its first week. Apparently Medved doesn't quite get that the game is not such a bad deal, as far as entertainment dollars go — this is a 40 hour game experience for many, not including morals erasing multiplayer.

Don't walk in front of me, I may not follow. Don't walk behind me, I may not lead. Just walk beside me and be my friend.

LOL. There's always drama when GTA-series and other games that let you shoot people and steal stuff are out. Most players are aware that it's just a game IMO; which doesn't show anything that doesn't happen or has not happened in real life... It should be noted that stealing cars and shooting people in the face has its in-game penalties (the cops, SWAT, FBI... starts chasing you), and that the player has (mostly) full freedom to choose whether to do those or not, just like in reality.

And actually, in multiplayer mode, it even becomes fun to see how you took down your friends and reversed
"I just remembered something that happened a long time ago."

LOL its good that writers are getting pulled in to the scene of games to write about how games influence ways of life !! But anyway, lots of Blood/Killing/Thriller shots included in most of the games recently are being surely discussed before in earlier reviews so I guess this is not a different one tho
