Considering current geopolitical events, I find it a bit hard to believe that this was done by a small Chinese startup in one year with a few million dollars... in any case, it's open source, so we can learn from it.

Even if they are lying I doubt they had more resources than the US put into this.

Has anyone tried out DeepSeek? I used it recently to create excel charts out of raw data and it was not that great at getting the job done. Gemini 1.5 flash and 2.0 flash experiemental is far better at doing this stuff.

I wounder what is causing it derail stock prices of a country.

DeepSeek used the Open AIs proprietary models to train its own open-source competitor. The technique is used by developers to obtain better performance on smaller models by using outputs from larger, more capable ones, allowing them to achieve similar results on specific tasks at a much lower cost. This is called distillation which breaches terms n conditions of OpenAI. That is just an allegation at this point.

OpenAI is crying that deepseek stole their output but the irony is they stole all the data via scraping off the internet first without any consent to train their models. Looks like someone got taste of their own medicine.

Interesting. I keep find news articles about countries banning Deepseek's AI over concerns associated with the model's origin and usage. So I guess they're not going to get too far unless they can pull a 360.

Fun fact: we had to block AI bots from this forum to preserve server resources, and so that they don't start answering "that's already been asked, do a search" to 90% of questions.

My country has banned the web interface at dns level but other than that nothing. I think it's just done for posturing.

Why didn't OpenAI steal their own data in order to make a better more cheaper model ?

I treat them like pokemon. Whatever is the fastest, I use for work, because I can't freaking wait 10 seconds for it to go wrong no matter how smart it is, so usually Groq llama.
If I need huge context, I use Gemini, which is still STUPID and even if you use the google maps plugin it can't respond to basic queries like "List all the cities that are like a train hour away from my city X",
if I know jack shit about something I usually wait for the slowest chatGPT and hope it doesn't blow off my leg.

Even though distillation sounds easy but to create modals that can rival and defeat openAI in every benchmark in a budget ain't a walk in the park. Deepseek didn't even use Nvidia's cuda. OpenAI owners were too cocky. I saw an interview where he was asked what if 10 best Indian minds decide to create their own AI to rival openAI he said they can try but its pointless, they won't even come close and no one ever will lol.

    Interesting. Going off topic below.

I think Google's scraping bot is also blocked to some extent. When using Google search on VEM 5.7.6.0 limited to SBI domain, I find everything besides this.

If this is true, someone should check up on GSC of SBI's domain to see what urls are not getting indexed.

Either remove the quotes or search for the right phrase, nya.

I'm editing this since I'm way off the beaten path. A while ago I used to search for threads directly on Google and they would show up, without using "site:". Just Sbinnovation how to get music. I was thinking maybe it's because of what Cr@zYiNsEiN pointed out.
