Although it is an old movie, I have never seen it. It gaved me tears to see such a beautiful movie and I'd recommend all to see.

I didn't think this movie would be good when I first read they're remaking, but boy did it surprise me! Can't wait for sequel!

I'll post here if something I watch doesn't already have a thread or is too old to have one.

Voices of a Distant Star (Hoshi no koe)

An anime short movie set in the 2040s about two childhood friends, a boy and a girl, that get separated when she's drafted by the UN as a combat pilot to fight an alien threat. They can still communicate sending e-mail to their phones, but the farther she travels from Earth, the longer it takes for each message to get through, to the point the delay is eventually measured in years (and since faster-than-light travel exists and is used in this universe, he gets older on Earth, but she's still 15).

An original concept, good animation, and the whole thing was a one-person job! Impressive. My only complaint is its relatively short length, I was eager to see more. 8/10.

did you notice the amount of propaganda packed in a seemingly innocent short movie?

teen girls getting compared to a distant star (movie directed, written and even voice acted by a 45 year old male, whereas the movie characters keep having their age difference increased, both hinting at pedophilia)
one imdb user says: 'The main character is strongly under the influence of Japanese schoolgirl fetish.'

15 year old combat pilots? teen female soldiers? teens so brainwashed that they actually volunteer?

(the peace loving) UN drafting for military space operations in the near future? star trek also revolves around a united federation of planets enlarging their empire under a one world government (while labeling their enemies as empires)
manufactured alien threats to earth? we are already witnesses to the ufo/alien craze

this is how people are getting prepared for future scenarios and societal perversions, manufacturing consent to the above, which may also explain why such movies are receiving international praise and promotion

I didn't see anything like what that IMDb comment suggests, nor did the portrayal of their relationship get creepy at any point (maybe if they'd been reunited, but the ambiguous ending doesn't make any assertions about that). He was still remembering her at the age of 25, but it felt more like lamenting the loss of a good friend who had been taken away from him, nothing more.

15 year old schoolgirls being drafted by the UN to pilot intergalactic robots isn't too unbelievable for an anime And Mikako is shown to be fairly proficient at it, which is probably why they chose her in the first place.

Perhaps I should do a rewatch, it's a pretty short movie after all. A rewatch of the project-gxs version with improved subtitles clarified a couple of plot points, and made the ending less ambiguous.

Well, I was just going to scold H265 and Master Razor for not commenting on the flicks they watched, so prophecy fulfilled
