I accidentally deleted some 3000 files

I ran del /f *.* in the command prompt, but forgot to change the directory beforehand. By the time I noticed it was taking too long and pressed Ctrl+C to cancel, almost everything was gone.

However, I had a backup and it took no more than ten minutes to restore it and undo this drama. Nothing was lost.

    Bottom line, always have backups

Yeah backups are a pain in the ass....but if you ever do need them you praise the lord that you made them. I wish i just had some pictures of my old profiles...would make them invites a lot easier.
    Thanks

These days you have to backup all devices, not just computers. Smartphones, tablets, ebook-readers, smart watches, routers and switches and any other such devices. And that takes a TON of space. The more you have, and the more you know about anything, the more money you have to spend.

yea, its good to have backups, but even backup hard drives fail and nothing is reliable these days even the cloud storages. but using the command prompt has its disadvantages and advantages I guess. lolz

that is why I always use the good old shift+delete. lolz
    Thanks

Once I accidentally deleted a folder on an encrypted partition and none of the free recover programs would work.

the most simple and fast recovery program I use only these days are recuva. but yes not all files are recoverable, especially if they have been over written.
    Thanks

Always have at least two partitions, a small one for Windows and another for your personal files. Then you can use Disk2vhd to make a system image, and Robocopy in mirror mode for everything else. Unless you deal with very big files, this can all be done in ten minutes or less, and without needing to reboot or close any programs. I realized that no matter how good a backup program is, I'd keep pushing the issue forever if using it meant interrupting my workflow. With this system, I don't have to.

Minimize, optimize. I only have a desktop computer and a laptop, and 95% of the action takes place on the latter nowadays. No phone, they're all handheld computers, and that just wasn't for me... and I gave it another whirl this year, but it still wasn't (I was able to resell it at a higher price, however, so I consider the experiment a success).

I'm not saying you should go to the same extent as me, but if you organize and evaluate your stuff, both physical and digital, you'll find there are at least some things you can get rid of. And as I said on another thread, it feels good to dispose of dead weight!

I have a 4 TB Seagate portable drive, and highly recommend it. I'm basically set for life when it comes to storage space, and so will you. Being the size of a wallet, it's also super practical
