Is anyone still using IRC?

I was wondering if it is still worth it to use IRC these days? Are people still using it to chat or is it a way just to collect some points in trackers or forums?
I always found IRC to be a much easier way to communicate rather than forums and other social platforms. Last time I used an IRC for chat purposes was back in 2001.

Hackers and sceners still use it. I used it from 2000 to 2002 (and more recently when we had that IRC channel here), but I preferred meeting people on other places like forums or Yahoo Games and then adding them to MSN.

me too for a simple reason: control. if you know the guys who run the irc server (or even running your own) you have better privacy than with any other chat system.

if you want to make some ''friends'' fast and get invited here and there, comes really handy. Hexchat is easy to use. Other than, i aint using it elsewhere.
