of course it does, it is a good way to promote the unity of european nations (and wider), so politically it helps one of the goals of the european union

Eurovision has always been inherently political at its core, since the cold war.
It's not even the occasional corruption or vote rigging that's annoying.
It's the neighbourly loyalty and age-old animosities that decide who win or who must not. Group of countries team up to ruin the old enemy (Greece and Cyprus Vs Turkey), Scandinavia, Slavic...

Last year, eurovision reached its pinacle of political interference: Ukraine VS Russia. with the right alliances at the right time, Ukraine managed to humiliate Russia.
