There's also a convenient torrent search engine called "TorLook". It's not as good as torrentz2 but it definitely has better UI and filters

Oh, is Torrentz2 back again? I forgot about it after their .eu domain and associated onion site ceased to function.

Self-hosted DHT search engine. Didn't want to post it since I haven't actually tried it and it's no longer maintained, but for the sake of completeness... note that even though BEP-51 theoretically allows it, don't expect a single instance to index millions of torrents like the search engines I've posted before, those run nodes all around the world and have been operating for years.

    Spoiler FreshMeat (defunct):

Upon closer examination, they don't seem to delete their download history. Some of the stuff I was seeding on early 2021 is still listed under my IPs of the time. Spooky

    To convert an IP address a.b.c.d to its decimal representation, do a*16777216 + b*65536 + c*256 + d.

very similar to this new hot piece that can be added to prowlarr:
    https://github.com/bitmagnet-io/bitmagnet

BTW, these days I do searches for open torrents using every prowlarr public tracker available, all at once.

Kinozal, rutracker, rutor, metal tracker, tpb and nnclub (Russian)
I have been on these trackers for a long time and sometimes I found something that I could not find on private trackers.

I don't know... I've been using torrents for 20 years, but with the exception of Windows ISOs from verified uploaders, I still feel like I'm playing Russian roulette when downloading warez from public trackers. Those things are very attractive targets due to the low investment required, huge audience and the fact you can reasonably expect antivirus warnings from (legitimate) cracks, letting your guard down.

Also, FreshMeat is gone on both Tor and clearnet.

for windows apps tpb is still best in public trackers.

for windows os, now in private tracker but open, teamos.xyz is popular.

but i always prefer untouch windows os.
    otherwise, try Lubuntu.
i installed that few months ago, found it interesting.

but i am windows addict, most reason is i have multi vpns, and i mostly use windows built ikev2.
if i had extra laptop, i might use Lubuntu permanently.
    i am still using win 7, i hate 8, 8.1, 10 and even 11.
in future i might migrate to Linux.

i mostly use rarbg for years, i was nearly in all trackers except ptp, hdbits, chdbits.
rarbg was best in 0day. interface was very good.

I have tried Lubuntu and many other distros throughout many years, which is why I use Windows as my main OS to this day. Linux is very good for servers, embedded devices and security auditing, but the 1970s design decisions show when you're trying to do "normal" usage. That's alright, though - you can take it or leave it.

FileListing has "shut down forever" (their words). The huge database of old torrents as well as the ability to search filenames and filter results will be missed.

2023 isn't being a very good year for torrenting...
