I use Total Commander's built-in one since that's my file manager of choice. It integrates very well to the point remote directories look and react just like local ones. Of course, I don't expect most people to install this incredibly powerful program just for the FTP client. Still have Filezilla as a backup just in case (and even made an XP compatibility patch for it).

Hadn't heard of it, so I will check it out to be fair, thanks!
    i never used total commander,

i have file zilla pro version, i am even unable to move files from 1 folder to other in seedbox.
cute ftp seems friendly to me.

Drag and drop works fine, or you can use RNFR and RNTO with absolute paths. The latter may not be too user-friendly, but then again I remember when FTP clients looked like this.

@anon could you rename this to Software Discussions? I'd like to use it for discussion software: news, opinions, requests, everything related.

To this end, I have a question: what would you recommend for encrypting files? I'm looking for something similar to TrueCrypt from back in the day. Sort of a container in which you can store files and keep on various hosting sites. And if it could also be multi-platform that would be excellent.

    VeraCrypt.

With that said, for full disk encryption, I use DiskCryptor. The bad news is that it's the opposite of what you asked for: no container support and Windows only. The good news is that no containers means it's faster than VeraCrypt and will always be, unless the latter undergoes a massive rewrite to address this (see https://github.com/veracrypt/VeraCry...ment-443522115). And when your processor lacks more than 2 cores or AES-NI, the difference is noticeable.

Yes but I'm not planning on encrypting drives. Just to keep some sensitive information on free storage sites. And for this I assume only containers can work.
What is the performance drop here; size or amount of files?

Indeed. They'll look like large files filled with garbage data that's always a multiple of 512 bytes

This occurs at the sector level, so in theory any and all usage is affected. In your particular scenario, however, you won't really notice anything.

The keepass db is safe to placed anywhere, as-is? And what would you recommend for the password? I cannot remember long and complex passwords no matter how much I try. What is your method?

It's never decrypted to disk if that's what you want to know.

Pick a long phrase that you can recall easily through some sort of mnemonic, but others cannot bruteforce or guess based on what they know about you.

Forgot to mention in post #97: by default, VeraCrypt does not update the modification time on container files to avoid giving away the fact they've been used recently. If you rely on timestamps to sync or backup files (Dropbox, Google Drive, Robocopy script or whatever), you'll have to turn that feature off.

That comic always surfaces when this matter is discussed (including your password recommendations thread), and it indeed offers good advice
